Coding Concepts with Cardinal Health

Coding Concepts with Cardinal Health
Cardinal Health is an active partner with Hilliard City Schools and has helped support STEAM learning, curriculum and professional development, and advance the district’s coding initiative through providing volunteers to assist in buildings throughout the district.  They have been actively involved in showcasing STEAM Careers, Design Thinking, Agile and Lean strategies, computational thinking, coding activities and more.  Cardinal Health has been in classrooms with students and at teacher professional development days to support innovative learning and teaching aligned to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

Today, at Hilliard Tharp, the Coding Champion volunteers from Cardinal Health came into the Innovation & Discovery Center and introduced coding concepts through a PB & J activity. Students were to imagine a robot that would make them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (PB & J) every day. What are the steps involved in making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Can they write a function that includes all the steps necessary to make a yummy sandwich? The students were deeply engaged, exposed to basic coding languages, and got to connect with professionals in the in-demand profession of computer science/IT.
