Skilled Trades Expo Oct. 10th

The 3rd annual Skilled Trades Expo is happening on October 10th at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard, Ohio. This event is for all 10th and 11th-grade students in Hilliard City Schools, Interested Seniors, and Tolles Students.

The Skilled Trades Expo provides knowledge and hands-on experiences to students for alternative pathways for viable career opportunities after graduation. The event is partnered with the Ohio Contractors Association, the Associated General Contractors of America, and the Building Trades Council. With there being such a high demand for skilled trades workers, it important for students to be educated on career options other than going to college after they graduate.

Look What’s Cooking at Brown

With last week getting up to almost 90 degrees, Ms. Wintrich’s 1st-grade class at Brown Elementary took advantage of the last day of summer. Her class created solar oven s’mores. With the heat of the sun and the direct sun rays hitting the black paper and aluminum foil, their s’mores were cooking in the solar ovens outside with just the sunlight! This science experiment was a perfect experience for her students to learn the science standard that the sun is the principal source of energy. They learned all about solar power and how sunlight affects the earth. With a hands-on, real-life experience, this lesson about the sun will last a lifetime!

Musical Guest at Weaver

Dr. David Hedgecoth from The Ohio State University School of Music brought three musician guests from Brazil to meet with and perform for some of Weaver’s music classes. The Brazilian musicians were:

  • Pianist- Fabio Curry – Professor of Music at The University of São Paulo
  • Bassoonist- Guilherme Pozzi – Professor of Music at The University of São Paulo
  • Percussionist Giba Conceiçao – Freelance Percussionist from Salvador, Brazil

The guest musicians performed for several music groups. They also had the Weaver students participate in some of the music the Brazilian musicians play. At the end of the day, some of the Weaver students had the guests from Brazil join them in performing.

Community Strategic Design Committee Application

Hilliard City Schools is actively engaging the community in defining what Ready for Tomorrow means.  This will be a collective vision that articulates our community’s aspirations for all our students.  Once this is complete, we will develop a strategic plan and a roadmap to help our schools make the vision come to life in our classrooms. This will be an additional set of meeting starting in the winter of 2023.  It’s important that our strategic plan reflect the hopes and aspirations our entire community has for our young people!

The Strategic Design Team members will meet four times over the next few months:

Meeting 1: October 25 at Heritage Middle School, 6- 8:30 pm

Meeting 2: November 15 at Heritage Middle School, 6- 8 pm

Meeting 3: December 8 at Heritage Middle School, 6- 8 pm

Meeting 4: January 12 at Heritage Middle School, 6- 8 pm

If you are interested in applying to be a part of this work, please fill out the Google form below.  We will notify those who will be participating on the committee in early October.  Not all who apply are guaranteed a spot on the committee.
