What is the Innovative Learning Center?
The Innovative Learning Center (ILC) provides a variety of coursework and experiences that strive to meet the needs of our fast-paced, constantly changing society. The ILC has blended existing programming with newly developed ideas in the attempt to offer options for each and every student in the Hilliard City School District to learn and achieve in the best possible manner.
The foundation for the ILC has been built upon the idea that traditional ways of schooling and traditional programs do not meet the needs of every student. In an effort to meet those needs, the ILC was developed to enhance the experience that a child has throughout the district, not as a replacement.
Students from all three of the district’s high schools and middle schools are shuttled to and from the ILC every 90 minutes to participate in classes in one of our four networks: College Jump Start, Imagination, Personal Success, and Young Professionals. These networks contain courses that allow for all of our students from grades 7-12 to come together in a centralized location to have an experience that may not have been possible at their home school.
The differences do not stop at the course offerings. The building, which was the old central office, was remodeled in June of 2013 to create an atmosphere conducive to 21st century teaching and learning. Bright colors, creatively designed furniture, and open collaborative spaces are just the beginning of a long list of purposeful touches that encourage critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
Hilliard City Schools believes that the ILC diversifies opportunities to meet student’s needs and gives the district a competitive edge in the rapidly changing school business market.
