Student Athletes of the Month

December 2019

Kathryn Kline (Gymnastics) is the December athlete of the month. She is a valuable member of the gymnastics team and a superb all-around athlete. The gymnastics team had a busy start to the season and Kate helped the team place in the last two meets. She placed 3rd on the beam and was voted Gymnast of the Meet by her teammates. At the 21st Annual Hilliard Invitational she helped them place 3rd overall, with Kate being one of the top finishers on the bars. Congratulations, Kate, on being named Darby High School’s Athlete of the Month.

Casey Maruniak (Boys Swimming), the reigning OCC Champion in the 100 Breaststroke, led the Panther Swimming and Diving teams in a record performance during the month of December. In placing 6th overall at the Ned Reeb Memorial Invite at OSU Dec. 14, Casey’s time of 59.78 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke broke his own varsity record set last season. Casey joined with Chase Ellis, Brady Bower and Mason Peck in breaking yet another record in the 200 Freestyle Relay; last set in 2014. Overall, Casey helped Panther Swimming place 5th in a field of 65 teams at the Ned Reeb Invite.

November 2019

Daniella Santos (Girls Cross Country) capped off her senior season with a strong showing in the cross country championship season. Daniella won her third straight OCC Cardinal division championship and helped her team finish 4th overall. At the OHSAA Central District Section 2 final, Daniella won her second straight District Championship earning All-district honors. At the OHSAA Region 3 Championship Daniella became the 2nd runner in school history to win a region individual title placing one spot higher than the season before. Finally, Daniella qualified for the OHSAA D1 state championships placing 15th overall, her highest showing to date. Congratulations Daniella on being selected as Darby Female Athlete of the Month.

Evan Grose (Football) is a leader on and off the field and has been chosen as Darby HS Athlete of the month for November. He earned 1st team league honors. Evan was also named team Captain by his teammates. He is a two- year varsity starter and never comes off the field. Evan helped lead the team to a winning 7-3 season.  Not only is he a leader on the field but excels in the classroom as well. Congratulations Evan on being named November Athlete of the month!

October 2019

Olivia Krumpe (Girls Volleyball) has been in the Heritage/Darby volleyball program for 6 years.  As a 3-year varsity award winner, she has dominated the net.  This season she leads the team in blocking and has the best hitting percentage.   Olivia also excels in the classroom and is involved in multiple leadership programs at Darby. She is a fierce competitor on and off the floor.   Congratulations Olivia on being selected Darby Female Athlete of the Month.

Jared Wells (Boys Golf) helped lead this year’s Darby Boys Golf team to their first District appearance in over 12 years.  Jared averaged 39.97 strokes per nine this season, shooting a 75 in the sectional tournament and also shooting 74 twice during the season.  Jared was named 3rd Team All-OCC in the powerful OCC Cardinal division.  His work ethic and approach to the game is truly outstanding.  One highlight of the season was when Jared shot 3 under par on the front nine at the sectional tournament.  Congrats on a great year!

September 2019

Nidhi Patel (Girls Tennis) has been with our tennis program for 4 years and has always displayed the utmost respect for the game.  She has risen to the challenge of playing singles this year and has excelled at the second singles spot.  Because of her exemplary play she has since moved in to the top singles spot on Varsity and taken that challenge head on.  Her attitude and work ethic are beyond compare.  We are so lucky to have her as our only senior and captain of the team.  Congratulations Nidhi on being selected Darby Female Athlete of the Month.

Sean Carney (Boys Cross Country) started off his junior season with a win at the New Albany invitational in a time of 16:48. He followed that up with runner-up finishes at the Asics Hot Summer Bash (15:44) and the prestigious Mason Invitational (15:48). His time of 15:44 at the Hot Summer Bash moved him up to 4th all-time in Darby history. That time also gives him the fastest time of any junior in the state of Ohio this year and is currently one of the 10 fastest times in the state for Division 1 XC.  Even more impressive, Sean’s time has placed in the top 40 of all juniors in the United States. Congratulations Sean on being selected Darby Male Athlete of the Month.
