What is Special Education?
Hilliard City Schools provides special education and related services to any student, ages 3 through 21 years of age, who qualifies as having a disability according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).
We are committed to providing students with disabilities specially-designed instruction and services with real-world experiences, accommodations, and access to the curriculum, targeting those skills necessary to be ready for tomorrow.
- The district provides students with a free appropriate public education and follows federal and state requirements for students with disabilities.
- The district believes every student can learn and provides services and support based on the least restrictive continuum of special education.
- Many students with disabilities can best be served by classroom teachers who differentiate instruction with the support of intervention specialists.
- District intervention specialists and related services staff work cooperatively with classroom teachers and other school personnel to provide a common understanding and response to students in special education.
