When a student is struggling in school, it is important to find out why. Parent and school partnerships are important for student success, therefore, the sooner you express your concern, the sooner the school can work with you and your child to find a solution.
Contact your child’s teacher or the principal of your child’s building to start the conversation.
Hilliard City Schools provides support for all students through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) as illustrated in the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities A Parent’s Guide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) below.
This tiered approach to address academic, behavior and well-being needs is implemented in a fluid, layered manner to address the individual needs of a student.
Tier 1: Core/Universal Instruction
- The classroom teacher provides high quality, differentiated core instruction to ALL students based on the Ohio Learning Standards and Hilliard School District curriculum.
Tier 2: Targeted Intervention
- In addition to Tier 1 instruction, some students may need learning opportunities through targeted intervention. Targeted Intervention often takes place in a small group inside and/or outside of the classroom.
Tier 3: Intensive Intervention
- In addition to Tier 1 instruction, a few students may need intensive intervention, which takes place inside and/or outside of the classroom.
If your child is not making sufficient progress, a referral for a special education evaluation may be needed.
Another resource for parents to ask questions, raise concerns or seek guidance is the district’s Parent Mentor.
