In 2020, The Washington Redskins changed their name to The Washington Football Team, dropping the previous moniker “Redskins,” a derogatory term often used for those of Native American descent. The Cleveland Indians followed suit and are now known as the Cleveland Guardians.

The sport of hockey originated with the Saux, Foxes, and Assiniboine people, who were among the Native American tribes who played a game called “shinny,” where a ball was hit down a field (and in the winter, over ice) using a curved stick.

There were once more than 300 indigenous languages spoken in the United States, with only 175 remaining. The most popular of these languages is Navajo, with about 170,000 speakers.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the Freshmen Class will be selling Grateful Grams for $1 during lunch periods. The grams will have candy attached and will be delivered on Friday, November 22nd
