Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

Homecoming is here! Tonight’s homecoming game against Hilliard Davidson High School starts at 7:00 p.m. The homecoming dance is tomorrow, October 2nd, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m on the football field. Students, please remember to download your ticket and bring a picture ID.

I ask all of you to please talk to your sons/daughters about drinking. Many students may be asked to attend parties before and after the dance. If your child is attending a party, please make sure there will be parent supervision and that there is no drinking. A simple phone call can save a life. We want all of our students to have a great weekend, and it’s critical that everyone remains safe.

We will hold virtual parent teacher conferences on October 13th from 2:45pm-7:00pm. Please click the live link for signups. Please do not hesitate to contact me or your students’ teacher if you have immediate questions or concerns.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the following students for earning Student of the Month for August and September: Adrianna Anderson, Julian Dandridge, Sydney Driscoll, Everett Helm, Madison Kaylor, Mason Koons, Callene Laslo, Sarah Lee, Joey LoParo, Jineen Musa, Sebastian Penaherra, Saimir Refatllari, Haley Roberts, Amanda Robison, Evan Rygalski, Hamzah Saleh, Kylee See, Eric Sese, Loryini Silva Calix, Robert Snyder and Kaitlyn Wilson.

Counselor News – September 2021

September is a great time to start to work on your common application process.  Colleges are coming to Bradley to talk about their schools.  Please sign up through Naviance, you will find the dates and time of their visits.  The school counselor web site has a link on how to complete the common application process, check it out.

Attention AP Students and Parents:  It is time to register for AP Exams.  Taking these exams gives you the opportunity to earn college credit.  Do not miss out on this opportunity!  The registration window will be open September 27th – October 25th.  Please note you must pay the exam fee to complete the registration process.  Being registered on College Board does not order an exam.  Payment must be completed to complete the exam order.  The cost of each exam is $96.  If you completed the free/reduced lunch application and were approved, you qualify for a reduced fee of $53 per exam.  Credit card (preferred payment method), cash or check are accepted.  You can pay with a credit card online at MyPaymentsPlus.  If by check please make payable to Hilliard City Schools.  Payment is due in full by October 25th.  There will be a $40 late fee for any exam order after October 25th.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Buscemi or Mrs. Wintrich in the guidance office or they can be reached at Jessica_Buscemi@hboe.org or Melinda_Wintrich@hboe.org.

Congratulations to our own Aidan Hennes & Jaelyn Hopson, who are two of 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT test in 2020. Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success! Congratulations!

Another congratulations to our own Audrey Ortiz, Lilly Ortiz, Christian Harris & Natalie Esquivel, who are four of 32,000 students from across the country to earn academic honors from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs! These National Recognition Programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them stand out during the admissions process. Colleges and scholarship programs use these honors to identify students from underrepresented groups through College Board’s Student Search Service.

Online Academy Registration for Second Semester

On July 1, 2021, Governor DeWine signed House Bill 110, Ohio’s 2022-23 biennial budget, which contains a number of important changes to laws and programs that impact Ohio schools and Online Academies.

What this means for our families is that beginning with the second semester, students enrolled in our Online Academy (OA) will no longer have their home school named on their official transcripts.  OA staff will be calling all families with Seniors to discuss what this means for graduation.  These students can still graduate from their home school and receive a diploma from their high school, but the official state transcript will say Hilliard Online Academy.  Again, all senior families will get a call beginning next week.

For families interested in the Online Academy for the second semester, the registration window will open up October 25-29.  Many more details will be coming in the following weeks, but we want to give families as much time as possible to plan for the second semester.  As always, you can find more details about course offerings and all things Online Academy by clicking on this OA webpage link.

Recognizing Exceptional Staff

We would like to announce a new staff appreciation award that will be given to Hilliard City School employees.  The Embrace, Empower & Inspire Award will be presented throughout the school year to staff members who exemplify the values of the Hilliard City Schools and make exceptional contributions to our district. These staff members demonstrate the Hilliard Way by making a difference every day, investing time in others, and pursuing excellence.

We hope our students, families, community members, and staff will take some time to nominate the staff member they feel best meets the criteria.  You can watch the a video and get more details this web page.

Substitute Noon Aides Needed in Elementary

Are you looking for a way to help our elementary schools?  We need Subs for our Noon Aides.  This position can be a volunteer, parent, grandparent, neighbor, anyone looking to help out during lunch and recess.  You pick the days and schools you want to work with!  Please reach out to our HR department, jobs@hboe.org, to learn more.  They will walk you through the process to get signed up!

More Destructive TikTok Challenges

We are asking for our parents help as we hear of more monthly online TikTok challenges. These challenges encourage students to participate in illegal activities such as vandalizing school property, stealing items from their building or committing assault.

Principals are having conversations with students about the consequences of these challenges.  We again are asking for your help in explaining the seriousness of these acts to your student. Vandalism to school facilities or assault will not be tolerated, and students will be disciplined with potential law enforcement involvement.  We appreciate your partnership in speaking with your child about the importance of respecting school property and others.

How to Use Parent Accounts in Canvas

Canvas is the online Learning Management System we use in Hilliard Schools. Some of the ways your child’s teacher(s) may use Canvas are: to provide links and images to important resources, to create online discussions where students can post and reply, and to receive, evaluate, and/or comment on work your child submits, digitally.  You are already enrolled as a Parent Observer in all of your child’s active Canvas courses.  To login to Canvas as a parent observer go to hilliard.instructure.com or click on the link to Canvas from our HCSD Parent page. Your parent observer username and password match your username and password for Home Access Center.  HCSD has already linked your Home Access username and password to your Canvas Parent Observer account. We have also built a Canvas course for parents to learn how to use this great instructional tool.  To Learn More click on this following link: How to Use Canvas for Parents

Athletic Streaming Scam

The district has been made aware of a fraudulent Twitter account that is portraying itself as OHSSA and is offering families a way to live-stream sporting events.  We have notified Twitter and OHSSA.  It is currently pushing a link for the Darby vs. Gahanna game this weekend.  That game is not being live-streamed.  Please follow your athletic department’s Twitter for real game links when they are available.  You can always call the sports office for confirmation.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

Hilliard City Schools is excited to honor and celebrate with our students and staff during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Please utilize this link filled with resources including daily announcements, famous thinkers, and artists. There are several pages of activities that will reach our preschool learners to our seniors. You will find bulletin board ideas, books, and activities to incorporate daily.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It was another great week here at Bradley High School. We continued to be impressed with the work our students and staff are doing inside and outside of the classroom.

I would like to thank Assistant Principal Mr. Walton and our staff for putting together a successful Club Fair this week during our lunch periods. It was great to see our students and staff working together to increase involvement in the many school clubs and activities that we have to offer here at Bradley.

Make sure to use Home Access Center (HAC) for the definitive source for student grades. This is a good time to emphasize your expectations for your students to ensure they have a positive start to the school year.

Please know that we are here to partner with you to ensure a successful school year for you and your student(s).   If you ever have any questions or need to contact us, feel free to call the school at 614-921-7400. We are eager to assist you.

  • SchoolMessenger App is available 24/7 right up until 12:00 pm on the day of the absence.
  • SchoolMessenger allows you to report a full day, leave and return, and early dismissals.

What to use if it is after the cut-off time the day of the absence:

Once the attendance office has received notification of an early dismissal, your child will be sent a pass to show their teacher.

Upon release from class, your child will sign out in the attendance office and meet you in your car, or drive themselves to their appointment or home.

No need to even get out of your car!

These two procedures work best, as visitors (parents), are not allowed in the building unless they have an appointment.

Letter From our Social Workers

Dear Bradley Families,

As we start our new school year, we recognize there is a lot of uncertainty and change that is still happening that can make it hard for both students and families. We are here to help support you through these difficult times. This year at Bradley High School, we have two new School Social Workers that will be working to support you and your family!

Our goal is to help you feel safe, establish healthy routines, manage emotions, and continue to learn, grow, and be ready for tomorrow! If your student needs extra support, please feel free to reach out to their teachers, their counselors, or the mental health clinicians. We will all work together to support your student and get them the help they need.

Bradley Intramurals

The intramural program is an opportunity for students to compete in unique sports in a pressure free environment against their friends and teachers. Participating in intramural sports helps students maintain and develop healthy physical and mental habits through physical exercise. All students and staff members are welcome to participate in these fun, safe and stress free activities. Please refer to your student’s Intramural Sports Canvas course for more detailed information, or email Brad Gmerek at brad_gmerek@hboe.org.

For those students looking to take on a leadership role within the intramural program, we are looking to form a Student Advisory Committee, allowing students to help organize, facilitate and have a voice in sports that are offered. Interested students can contact Mr. Gmerek at brad_gmerek@hboe.org or stop in room B252 to see him!

E Pluribus Unum

To support the understanding of our students’ rich experiences, their successful navigation through the complexities of the world, we have created intentional opportunities for our young people from all communities to examine concepts of identity, empathy, and advocacy, as well as consider the positive power of inclusion so that everyone has a place and a voice at the table. Please consider having your young person participate in the opportunity of our student group, E Pluribus Unum. It is a valuable way for our students to reflect our national ideal of Out of Many, One. Please click THIS LINK to learn more about this learning opportunity and to access the permission slip to participate.

When to Keep Students Home Sick

As we continue to navigate Covid-19 please remember there are key times we are asking you to keep your student home.  We have a simple chart to follow on our 21-22 web page under the Health and Safety Tab.  Here is a list of symptoms you should keep your child home if they have any of the following:

  •          Fever (100.4°F or higher)
  •          New or worsened cough
  •          Shortness of breath
  •          Loss of taste or smell
  •          Sore throat
  •          Diarrhea or vomiting
  •          New onset severe headache

*For children with chronic medical conditions (such as allergies, asthma or migraine), symptoms should represent a change from their usual health status.

For a complete look at the Franklin County Public Health Chart, please click this link.

Home Access Center Gradebook

Although many scores for student work can be found in Canvas we want to remind families to use Home Access Center for the definitive source for student grades. Canvas is great for some scores and individual assignment feedback but Home Access should be used for final scores and Grading Period grades. To monitor student daily classwork grades, look at the Classes tab.

You can learn more by clicking on this link: Viewing Classwork and MP Averages in HomeAccess.

Columbus Library Community Conversation

Each month, the Columbus Metropolitan Library is hosting book talks from their collection about race and social justice. Next up: on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 2-3 p.m., they will continue the conversation with a virtual program focused on Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. The scheduled panelists include Corey Favor from Orange Barrel Media, Sophia Fifner from NiSource and the NiSource Charitable Foundation, Fran Frazier from Black Girl Rising, Inc. and Hilary Sloat from Hilliard City Schools. Donna Zuiderweg, the Chief Community Engagement Officer, will serve as moderator.

To register and learn more about the series, visit columbuslibrary.org/speak-up

Keep Hilliard Clean and Green

Keep Hilliard Clean and Green is hosting a little clean-up on September 18 from 10:30-11:30am.  You can park at the Bike Path Trailhead near the Civic and Cultural Arts Center on Market Street.  Wear good shoes and bring gardening gloves if you want.  Cleaning supplies will be provided.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It was another good week here at Bradley High School. Our students are getting settled in and doing a great job in their classes.

I would like to recognize our acapella group Shades of Blue. Shades of Blue’s single “exile” was selected for an international compilation album called “Voices Only.” They were selected amongst some of the best high school and college a cappella groups in the country for this honor. Congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment!

As we get into the swing of things academically, we want to remind families to use Home Access Center (HAC) for the definitive source for student grades. Canvas is great for some scores and individual assignment feedback but HAC should be used for final scores and Grading Period grades.

Next Thursday, we will be holding a club fair during lunch periods. Bradley High School has over 20 different clubs that students have the ability to get involved in during their time here in our building. Please talk to your students about finding a club and getting involved.

The building will be closed on Monday in celebration of Labor Day. Enjoy the holiday and we will see your children bright and early on Tuesday morning.

Beginning Tuesday, September 7, all students, staff, and visitors in all of our schools will be required to wear masks when inside our school buildings. Every safety measure we take now is to keep our students in school five days a week.  Individuals who are wearing masks are significantly less likely to be required to quarantine.  We feel this step is necessary in order to do everything possible not only to keep our students in school but also to slow the number of positive cases in our schools.

Have a great weekend and Go Jags!!!

No need to even get out of your car.

Voluntary Vaccination Reporting

Hilliard City Schools is committed to taking the recommended and necessary measures to protect our students and staff from contracting and spreading COVID-19.

If you have decided to have your student receive the COVID-19vaccination, which we encourage you to do for your safety and the safety of others, we ask that you voluntarily provide a copy of your CDC-issued vaccination card. While this is purely voluntary, electing to provide us with your vaccination card will assist in determining when and under what circumstances quarantining must occur if your student is in close contact with a positive case.

The vaccination card details and information will be kept with our nurses and in student medical files. It will only be disclosed and used by our contact tracing team.

Please click here to submit the card.
