Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the first quarter of the school year. As always, we encourage you to keep the lines of communications open with all teachers if you have any questions about course grades and/or assignments.

Congratulations to The Bradley Marching Band for receiving an overall “Superior” rating at last week’s Hilliard Marching Band Invitational, qualifying them for the OMEA State Marching Band Finals. Not only did they receive an overall “Superior” rating, but they received a Superior from all 7 judges. This is the 11th consecutive time the HBMB has qualified for States. Their next competition will be the Bands of America Regional Championship next Saturday at Fortress Obetz.

We will hold virtual parent teacher conferences on October 13th. You will receive sign up information in the upcoming weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact me or your students’ teacher if you have immediate questions or concerns.

Athletic Streaming Scam

The district has been made aware of a fraudulent Twitter account that is portraying itself as OHSSA and is offering families a way to live-stream sporting events.  We have notified Twitter and OHSSA.  It is currently pushing a link for the Darby vs. Gahanna game this weekend.  That game is not being live-streamed.  Please follow your athletic department’s Twitter for real game links when they are available.  You can always call the sports office for confirmation.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

Hilliard City Schools is excited to honor and celebrate with our students and staff during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Please utilize this link filled with resources including daily announcements, famous thinkers, and artists. There are several pages of activities that will reach our preschool learners to our seniors. You will find bulletin board ideas, books, and activities to incorporate daily.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It was another great week here at Bradley High School. We continued to be impressed with the work our students and staff are doing inside and outside of the classroom.

I would like to thank Assistant Principal Mr. Walton and our staff for putting together a successful Club Fair this week during our lunch periods. It was great to see our students and staff working together to increase involvement in the many school clubs and activities that we have to offer here at Bradley.

Make sure to use Home Access Center (HAC) for the definitive source for student grades. This is a good time to emphasize your expectations for your students to ensure they have a positive start to the school year.

Please know that we are here to partner with you to ensure a successful school year for you and your student(s).   If you ever have any questions or need to contact us, feel free to call the school at 614-921-7400. We are eager to assist you.

Thank you for your continued support.  Have a great weekend and Go Jags!!!

ATTENDANCE AT A GLANCE

Easiest and fastest way to report an absence:

  • SchoolMessenger App (When you sign up, you will need to use your email used in Home Access Center.)
  • SchoolMessenger App is available 24/7 right up until 12:00 pm on the day of the absence.
  • SchoolMessenger allows you to report a full day, leave and return, and early dismissals.

What to use if it is after the cut-off time the day of the absence:

Once the attendance office has received notification of an early dismissal, your child will be sent a pass to show their teacher.

Upon release from class, your child will sign out in the attendance office and meet you in your car, or drive themselves to their appointment or home.

No need to even get out of your car!

These two procedures work best, as visitors (parents), are not allowed in the building unless they have an appointment.

For more information about the SchoolMessenger App, please visit the Hilliard City Schools website and go to parents>attendance.

Letter From our Social Workers

Dear Bradley Families,

As we start our new school year, we recognize there is a lot of uncertainty and change that is still happening that can make it hard for both students and families. We are here to help support you through these difficult times. This year at Bradley High School, we have two new School Social Workers that will be working to support you and your family!

Our goal is to help you feel safe, establish healthy routines, manage emotions, and continue to learn, grow, and be ready for tomorrow! If your student needs extra support, please feel free to reach out to their teachers, their counselors, or the mental health clinicians. We will all work together to support your student and get them the help they need.

In addition to in-school resources, please reference the school counseling website for more information including contact information and useful resources. We are so excited to begin this school year with all of you and we had such a great time getting to meet your students!

Bradley Intramurals

The intramural program is an opportunity for students to compete in unique sports in a pressure free environment against their friends and teachers. Participating in intramural sports helps students maintain and develop healthy physical and mental habits through physical exercise. All students and staff members are welcome to participate in these fun, safe and stress free activities. Please refer to your student’s Intramural Sports Canvas course for more detailed information, or email Brad Gmerek at brad_gmerek@hboe.org.

For those students looking to take on a leadership role within the intramural program, we are looking to form a Student Advisory Committee, allowing students to help organize, facilitate and have a voice in sports that are offered. Interested students can contact Mr. Gmerek at brad_gmerek@hboe.org or stop in room B252 to see him!

E Pluribus Unum

To support the understanding of our students’ rich experiences, their successful navigation through the complexities of the world, we have created intentional opportunities for our young people from all communities to examine concepts of identity, empathy, and advocacy, as well as consider the positive power of inclusion so that everyone has a place and a voice at the table. Please consider having your young person participate in the opportunity of our student group, E Pluribus Unum. It is a valuable way for our students to reflect our national ideal of Out of Many, One. Please click THIS LINK to learn more about this learning opportunity and to access the permission slip to participate.

When to Keep Students Home Sick

As we continue to navigate Covid-19 please remember there are key times we are asking you to keep your student home.  We have a simple chart to follow on our 21-22 web page under the Health and Safety Tab.  Here is a list of symptoms you should keep your child home if they have any of the following:

  •          Fever (100.4°F or higher)
  •          New or worsened cough
  •          Shortness of breath
  •          Loss of taste or smell
  •          Sore throat
  •          Diarrhea or vomiting
  •          New onset severe headache

*For children with chronic medical conditions (such as allergies, asthma or migraine), symptoms should represent a change from their usual health status.

For a complete look at the Franklin County Public Health Chart, please click this link.

Home Access Center Gradebook

Although many scores for student work can be found in Canvas we want to remind families to use Home Access Center for the definitive source for student grades. Canvas is great for some scores and individual assignment feedback but Home Access should be used for final scores and Grading Period grades. To monitor student daily classwork grades, look at the Classes tab.

You can learn more by clicking on this link: Viewing Classwork and MP Averages in HomeAccess.

Columbus Library Community Conversation

Each month, the Columbus Metropolitan Library is hosting book talks from their collection about race and social justice. Next up: on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 2-3 p.m., they will continue the conversation with a virtual program focused on Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. The scheduled panelists include Corey Favor from Orange Barrel Media, Sophia Fifner from NiSource and the NiSource Charitable Foundation, Fran Frazier from Black Girl Rising, Inc. and Hilary Sloat from Hilliard City Schools. Donna Zuiderweg, the Chief Community Engagement Officer, will serve as moderator.

To register and learn more about the series, visit columbuslibrary.org/speak-up

Keep Hilliard Clean and Green

Keep Hilliard Clean and Green is hosting a little clean-up on September 18 from 10:30-11:30am.  You can park at the Bike Path Trailhead near the Civic and Cultural Arts Center on Market Street.  Wear good shoes and bring gardening gloves if you want.  Cleaning supplies will be provided.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It was another good week here at Bradley High School. Our students are getting settled in and doing a great job in their classes.

I would like to recognize our acapella group Shades of Blue. Shades of Blue’s single “exile” was selected for an international compilation album called “Voices Only.” They were selected amongst some of the best high school and college a cappella groups in the country for this honor. Congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment!

As we get into the swing of things academically, we want to remind families to use Home Access Center (HAC) for the definitive source for student grades. Canvas is great for some scores and individual assignment feedback but HAC should be used for final scores and Grading Period grades.

Next Thursday, we will be holding a club fair during lunch periods. Bradley High School has over 20 different clubs that students have the ability to get involved in during their time here in our building. Please talk to your students about finding a club and getting involved.

The building will be closed on Monday in celebration of Labor Day. Enjoy the holiday and we will see your children bright and early on Tuesday morning.

Beginning Tuesday, September 7, all students, staff, and visitors in all of our schools will be required to wear masks when inside our school buildings. Every safety measure we take now is to keep our students in school five days a week.  Individuals who are wearing masks are significantly less likely to be required to quarantine.  We feel this step is necessary in order to do everything possible not only to keep our students in school but also to slow the number of positive cases in our schools.

Have a great weekend and Go Jags!!!

Voluntary Vaccination Reporting

Hilliard City Schools is committed to taking the recommended and necessary measures to protect our students and staff from contracting and spreading COVID-19.

If you have decided to have your student receive the COVID-19vaccination, which we encourage you to do for your safety and the safety of others, we ask that you voluntarily provide a copy of your CDC-issued vaccination card. While this is purely voluntary, electing to provide us with your vaccination card will assist in determining when and under what circumstances quarantining must occur if your student is in close contact with a positive case.

The vaccination card details and information will be kept with our nurses and in student medical files. It will only be disclosed and used by our contact tracing team.

Please click here to submit the card.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

The first full week of school is complete and our students did an outstanding job. This past Tuesday, we finished our opening class meetings for the 2021-2022 school year. We are excited to continue the positive momentum that has gotten this school year off to a great start.

On September 15, we will be holding an open house here at Bradley high school.  From 6:00 pm- 6:30 pm we will hold a senior parent only meeting hosted by our Post-Secondary Counselor Mr. Tom Woodford in the PAC to talk about the college admissions process. Beginning at 6:30pm we will hold a traditional open house where parents will have an opportunity to walk your students’ schedules and meet their teachers from 6:30pm-8:00pm. In the upcoming weeks you will receive more information with a detailed schedule.

iPad Technology Plan Important for Students in All Grades

The iPad Technology Protection Plan* (TPP) covers the iPad loaned to the student for the 2021-2022 school year against incidental damage or loss over $50. Accessories (charger and case) and damages valued at less than $50 are NOT covered and are the sole responsibility of the student. Coverage is 24 hours per day. The Technology Protection Plan will only cover two incidents for the school year. NEGLECT IS NOT COVERED.

Because K-4 students now take their iPads home each day, we would encourage you to purchase the TPP. If the device is damaged, and you are not covered, you will receive a bill for needed repairs to the device.

The total premium cost for the 2021-2022 school year is $25 per student. The Technology Protection Plan is not refundable.

Payments can be made through MyPaymentsPlus.com through August 27th or by check made out to Hilliard City Schools. If paying by check, please write your student’s ID number and TPP in the memo line on your check and turn it into your school office.

For electronic payments go to MyPaymentsPlus.com, create an account if you haven’t already done so, ‘add’ your student(s), then click the ‘Events & Activities’ tab to view and pay the TPP option.

For more detailed information about the TPP, please go to our website: https://www.hilliardschools.org/one2one/ipad-tech-tpp/
