Parent University – Eating Disorders and Supporting Your Student

The Hilliard City Schools Department of Wellness is proud to host Chelsea Merriman Tobias, LISW-S from Eating and Behavioral Health Associates, for a Parent University Program.  Chelsea, a Hilliard Schools graduate, will lead a conversation about eating disorders and related behaviors for adults who are supporting children struggling with disordered eating.  Chelsea is an independently licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with children, teens, and young adults who struggle with issues related to food, body image, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

This event will be held in the Media Center at Heritage Middle School on April 20 at 7:00 pm.  Please reach out to Alex_Beekman@hboe.org with questions.

OLDER NEWS BUT STILL RELEVANT

Bus notes:  At least through the end of this school year, visitors are still not allowed on buses.

NO Food deliveries:  Remember that no food deliveries are allowed during the school day.  Also, remember that basic lunches are still free in the cafeteria.

Parents / Students:  If a student has a zoom/in-building appointment with an outside source, and they will be staying in the building for this, they still need a parent permission note for missing class(es).  This is the same procedure as though they are leaving the building.  They will need to sign out and back in at the Attendance office to make sure they get excused.  It can be reported in School Messenger, or an email, hbrattendance@hboe.org, or give your student a note to give the attendance office.

If we don’t receive notification from parents, the student will be unexcused.

NO Change or Vending Machine refunds:  The office does not have change or refunds.  For refunds, you will need to call the number on the machine.

If you have started to drive and park at school, you will need to register your car.  Go to Canvas, then “announcements” from the beginning of the school year, fill out the google doc and come to the Main Office for your parking tag.  Reminder that parking for students is on the north side of the building.  That is the lot between Bradley and Memorial all the spots in front of the stadium.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It is great to have everyone back in the building after spring break. The students did an excellent job of coming back focused to finish this final quarter.

Next week, Bradley High School will begin administering the Ohio State Tests. We will be testing on the following four days: 4/6, 4/19, 4/21 and 4/27. On these four days we will be running a modified schedule to accommodate the four hour testing window that is allotted for students to complete the exams.  During testing times, AP teachers will be running review sessions for non-testing students to help prepare AP students for the upcoming AP exams in May. On the scheduled testing days, we will be running a block schedule in the afternoon. (Click Here) Students will be required to attend periods in which they have academic classes.

Over the past few weeks you have received testing emails with schedules and detailed testing information. We will continue to send these email communications to ensure that there is no confusion about testing days, times and student room locations. Please make sure to discuss the testing schedule with your students prior to the testing days to ensure that all of our students are prepared when they arrive on their testing days.

Have a great weekend and Go Jags!

Teachers Receive Grant to Study Abroad

Hilliard teachers Amanda Schaeffer and Beth Boza were selected for prestigious grants through Fund for Teachers and the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation. With their grants, Boza and Schaeffer will travel to Lisbon and Madrid for two weeks to investigate how street art reflects the voice of their people. From this research, they will help Hilliard students participate in a student-led street art project that focuses on making marginalized voices heard in our local community.

City of Hilliard Seeks Input

The City of Hilliard is seeking input from residents, businesses, and employees to help plan future amenities and development.  The City is in the process of creating its first standalone economic development plan, known as Opportunity Hilliard. The plan will identify strategies to help Hilliard become a hub for business and identify opportunities to enhance the City’s status in the region and nation.

Members of the public are invited to fill out an online survey that asks for feedback on how to best support existing businesses, attract new jobs, and make Hilliard a destination.  Questions also focus on transportation, housing, and parks to address the City’s Hilliard by Design Comprehensive Plan update, which is taking place concurrently with Opportunity Hilliard.

You can click this link to learn more and take part in the survey.

Canvas Help

Parents can access their student’s Canvas courses through a web browser like Chrome, Safari, Firefox and/or Edge. If you would prefer to use the Canvas app, be sure you download and use the STUDENT Canvas app, not the Parent Canvas app. A browser allows for a much richer experience as a Parent Observer. In addition, we have already linked your Home Access user name and password to your student’s courses.  There is a Parent Canvas Course that can walk you through how to use Canvas better.  You can access the course by clicking here.

There are also other parent resources on our Parent University page, including College Planning, Home Access help and more.
