Good Afternoon Jaguar Parents,

Our first week back from break went well. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior scheduling meetings will begin February 4th. Please start talking to your students about their class choices to ensure they are making the best decisions about the classes they are scheduling. As we begin to build the building schedule for the 2025-2026 school year, it is essential that our students make informed scheduling decisions.

Grades will be available on January 14th. Please review your child’s grades and discuss strengths and areas of improvement to set goals for the third quarter. Take time to celebrate your child’s successes and continue to work with his/her respective teachers to achieve any improvement that needs to take place. This is also an excellent time to re-emphasize your expectations for your child for the remainder of the year.

Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!!!

Welcome back Jaguars!  We are excited to see students back in the building.

Understanding Snow Day Decisions

Winter weather in Central Ohio brings its fair share of challenges, and deciding whether to delay or cancel school is one of the most difficult responsibilities our team faces. We know these decisions impact families, staff, and our entire community, and take this responsibility very seriously.  Click here to read about what goes into making these important decisions.

Digital Wellness for Families During Winter Break

What’s topping your kids’ holiday wish lists this year? Chances are it has a screen, Internet access, and games. With a little planning — and kids’ assistance — you can balance your family’s tech activities with much-needed face time.  We want to provide families with Digital Wellness tips and strategies to consider during the Winter break. These two weeks are an opportunity to exhibit a healthy balance with device use.

Here are some ideas to try from CommonSense Media.

·Be jolly — but firm. Let your kids know you’ll enforce stricter time limits to create more quality family time. And tell them that the rules will apply to the grown-ups as well.

·Make a list (and check it with your kids). Don’t go cold turkey. Schedule some daily tech time for yourself and your kids. Get their input on which devices they absolutely can’t live without, and allow some limited use.

·Plan a device-free dinner. Put the phones and tablets in a basket, and don’t check ’em til the dishes are done.

·Make setup fun, not frustrating. No matter how easy to use companies make new devices, there’s always some (often frustrating) setup time. Truth be told, kids often figure out thorny tech glitches faster than parents, so involve your kids in the process. Use that time to discuss responsible use of the new device.

·Try some tech togetherness. Unplugging for its own sake isn’t the point. Family time is. Plan a night of video games, movies, or maybe preselected YouTube videos you can enjoy together.

·Combine online- and offline activities. Document your family memories and consider compiling them into journals, cards, and scrapbooks. This is a perfect time to share your own holiday memories with your kids.

·If no creatures are stirring … don’t check your email. Remember, your kids learn their media habits partly from you.

By January 5th, discuss questions with your students related to this activity, such as:

  • Did you feel more present with your family?
  • What was the most challenging part of the break for you?
  • What was the one offline activity we did that you enjoyed the most?
  • Can you help our family create a plan to make this a more frequent practice?

Wishing you and your family a wonderful and digitally smart winter break.  The HCSD Technology Department.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

I would like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Bradley High School PTO and all the families who contributed to this quarter’s teacher coffee cart. This initiative serves as a wonderful gesture of appreciation for the incredible work our dedicated teachers do every day.

Additionally, I want to thank everyone who attended Winterfest this week. I am continually impressed by the remarkable talent we have here at Bradley, which was beautifully showcased in the theater and during the Art Show on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A special thank you goes out to Mr. Rice, Mrs. Ruppert, Mr. Witt, Ms. Schott, Mrs. Broadhurst, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Ruffing, Mrs. Ufferman, and Mrs. Boiarski for their exceptional leadership and unwavering support for our students.

Central Ohio Healthcare Summit for High School Students

We have the opportunity to take students from each High School to the Central Ohio Healthcare Summit sponsored by the Healthcare Career Collaborative of Central Ohio. This will take place at the Ohio Expo Center on Thursday, February 20.  This event is for juniors and seniors who are considering a career in Healthcare after graduating from High School, and there are opportunities for both college bound, and those looking for an alternative to college. The summit will focus on six areas of careers you can begin exploring right after you graduate: Surgical Technologist, Radiologic Technologist, Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, Medical Assistant, and Medical Laboratory Technician.  You will be able to speak with medical professionals, engage in hands on demonstrations and get career advice from those in the field!

If you are a junior or senior looking to go directly to the workforce after high school and are interested in attending this event, please complete this form to express interest. Please do so no later than Friday, December 20! SPACE IS LIMITED!!

Kindergarten Registration Coming Soon

Hilliard City School District will begin Kindergarten Registration on January 13, 2025, for the 2025-26 school year.  If your child will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2025, they are eligible to start kindergarten during the 2025-26 school year.

Parents can access the registration website (on or after January 13, 2025) to complete online registration. Once you have completed the registration process and provided all required documentation, you will be given access to schedule your child’s kindergarten screening appointment for August.  Please don’t delay.  The District uses registration numbers in the spring to determine how many kindergarten classes will be offered at each building. Please make sure that your child is enrolled as soon as possible to secure a spot at the building assigned to your address.

Contact the Hilliard City Schools Welcome Center at (614) 921-7096 with questions.  For more information, please visit the Hilliard City School District website at www.hilliardschools.org.

Key Takeaways from the Five-Year Forecast

Ohio law requires every school district to update its five-year financial forecast twice a year: once by November 30 and again by May 31. These forecasts provide a snapshot of our district’s financial health and help us plan for the future. Click here for an easy-to-understand overview of the key points from our latest update.

Winter Weather Precautions

As the colder temperatures return, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of our students during their commute to school. When colder weather impacts road conditions, there may be transportation delays. Please check your emails or phone messages in the morning for any updates regarding transportation delays. This will help ensure your child is not waiting at the bus stop for an extended period in the cold.

If your child needs winter gear, such as coats, hats, gloves, or scarves, please reach out to your student’s teacher, counselor, or principal. We have donated winter clothing and can provide the necessary gear to ensure your child stays warm and comfortable.

Stay warm and safe!

Cram the Cruiser Donations

Residents are invited to help Hilliard school children bundle up this winter by donating to the City of Hilliard’s sixth annual Cram the Cruiser event.  The event is a coordinated effort to collect new winter items, such as coats, gloves, hats, snow boots, socks, hooded sweatshirts, and pants for elementary-aged children to “cram” a cruiser full.

Donors may use the collection boxes at the Hilliard Community Center, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive; Safety Services Building, 5171 Northwest Parkway; or Hilliard Municipal Building, 3800 Municipal Way.  Drop-off is encouraged between 8 am and 5 pm on weekdays, but the boxes at the Division of Police and Community Center will be available after hours. Items will be collected at the boxes through Dec. 1.

Donations also can be dropped off at the Hilliard Tree Lighting, slated for 4 to 6:30 pm December 1 in Downtown Hilliard. A cruiser will be located near First Responders Park.
