Congratulations to Heritage’s Girls Tennis team for a strong win Thursday night against Dublin Sells.  The netters won 4 to 1.  The closing doubles match of Aanya Korra & Elisha Monroy sealed the score of 4 to 1.  Great job to the entire team.  The next match will be Tuesday against Upper Arlington Jones Middle School at Darby High School.

The Heritage Boys Golf team had 3 golf matches this week and earned 2 wins. Tuesday’s tough loss against Upper Arlington Hastings led to 2 victories on Wednesday and Thursday against Jonathan Alder and Marysville Bunsold. The Panthers made up for losses against these two teams earlier in the season. Jensen Webb was Medalist on Tuesday and Wednesday. Niko Caleodis earned Medalist on Thursday with 2 birdies at Rolling Meadows. One of those birdies was a hole out from 85 yards on No. 8. The Panthers also shot a school record low team score of 168 against Marysville Bunsold during Thursday’s match. Also on the course this week were Landon Stockdale, Mason Gloeckner, Jake Biniker, Grant Sayre, Trey Ford, Jacob Limbird, Ben Nowinsky, Ben Boring, Carson Allen, and Trevor Starnes. The Boys Golf team now moves to 8-8 on the season with 3 events left to round off the season. Great work Panthers!

National Hispanic/LatinX Heritage Month:  Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  Do you know the difference between the terms Hispanic, Latino/a, and LatinX? Hispanic refers to native Spanish speakers or those with Spanish speaking ancestry. Latino/a refers to people of Latin American descent. LatinX is a gender-neutral alternative that includes Latino/a. Check out the books about LatinX characters and by LatinX authors on display in the Media Center.  There is also a Collection in Destiny Discover that focuses on the Media Center books that celebrate this month.  Today’s featured book: Path to the Stars by Sylvia Acevedo. This inspiring memoir for young readers is about a Latina rocket scientist whose early life was transformed by joining the Girl Scouts and who currently serves as CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Attention 8th graders: Are you dedicated to academic excellence? Are you involved in clubs, organizations, and sports at HMS? Do you spend your free time volunteering in your community? Are you a leader in your school & community? If this sounds like you, then you may be eligible to apply to the NJHS! Take a look at the NJHS application available on the HMS webpage under clubs. Please see Mrs. Geoit or Ms Jasper for any questions.
