The Girls Flex Volleyball Team won last night against Grandview Heights in an exciting match. The girls worked hard and pulled out the victory in three sets. We will be back in action next Thursday for two games against Weaver.

The 7th grade football team traveled to UA Jones middle school on Wednesday night and competed against an undefeated Jones team. The Panthers emerged victorious by a score of 18-12. It was a hard hitting and fought game. The Panthers defense forced 2 turnovers and blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. The undefeated 7th grade Football Panthers are back in action AT HOME next Wednesday @5pm bs UA Hastings. We would love to see as much support as we can at our last home game on the Heritage field!   Go Panthers!

National Hispanic/LatinX Heritage Month:  Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  Do you know the difference between the terms Hispanic, Latino/a, and LatinX? Hispanic refers to native Spanish speakers or those with Spanish speaking ancestry. Latino/a refers to people of Latin American descent. LatinX is a gender-neutral alternative that includes Latino/a. Check out the books about LatinX characters and by LatinX authors on display in the Media Center.  There is also a Collection in Destiny Discover that focuses on the Media Center books that celebrate this month.  Today’s featured book: Path to the Stars by Sylvia Acevedo. This inspiring memoir for young readers is about a Latina rocket scientist whose early life was transformed by joining the Girl Scouts and who currently serves as CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Attention 8th graders: Are you dedicated to academic excellence? Are you involved in clubs, organizations, and sports at HMS? Do you spend your free time volunteering in your community? Are you a leader in your school & community? If this sounds like you, then you may be eligible to apply to the NJHS! Take a look at the NJHS application available on the HMS webpage under clubs. Please see Mrs. Geoit or Ms Jasper for any questions.
