Student Wellness Winter Resources

As we approach the winter break, we want to be sure our families know there is help available 24 hours a day, seven days a week if a student is in crisis.

If a friend or family member hears direct warning signs like, “I’ve decided to kill myself,” “I wish I were dead,” “I’m going to end it all,” or “If this doesn’t happen, I’ll kill myself.”  The most important thing to do is call 911 for emergency help.

If there are indirect warning signs like, “I’m tired of life; I just can’t go on,” or “my family would be better off without me,” you should contact local police non-emergency lines or the Safe Schools Helpline.

The Safe Schools Helpline is a free and confidential option for our students to report threats of violence, illegal activity, or any activity they think can harm students or staff in our schools. There is a toll-free number students can call or a number they can text or a web page where they can report their concerns and talk to a trained mental health counselor.

During the school year, we utilize The Hope Squad program.  This is a school-based peer support team that partners with local mental health agencies. Peers select students who are trustworthy and caring individuals to join the Hope Squad. Squad members are trained to watch for at-risk students, provide friendship, identify suicide-warning signs, and seek help from adults.  The Hope Squad students know who to contact when they see a peer in crisis.

IN THE NEWS

Exam week is happening now through Friday, one more day!  Get plenty of rest.  All exams are done by 11:00am.  The schedule is posted on our website.

If you do not have a ride home, you will need to stay in the commons until the buses are available to take you home at the end of the regular school day, 2:32pm.  Also, unless your advisor has said different, there are no club meetings during exam week.

Just a reminder from Transportation– Hilliard City Schools is not allowing guests (non-assigned sudents) on buses.  Due to the amount of students assigned to buses and COVID (particularly contact tracing), we cannot accommodate extra passengers at this time.

Parents / Students:  If a student has a zoom/in-building appointment with an outside source, and they will be staying in the building for this, they still need a parent permission note for missing class(es).  This is the same procedure as though they are leaving the building.  They will need to sign out and back in at the Attendance office to make sure they get excused.  It can be reported in School Messenger, or an email, hbrattendance@hboe.org, or give your student a note to give the attendance office.

If we don’t receive notification from parents, the student will be unexcused.

Students:  Please watch your speed on Walker Rd in the school zone, before and after school.  The speed limit is 20mph while the flashing lights are on.

Students/Parents:  When a parent is dropping off something for their student, we will let the parent in to the vestibule to drop the item off on the table.  Please make sure there is a name on it (pen and sticky notes are provided), and that the student is aware it has been dropped off.

Parking tags for this year:  If you have registered your vehicle, please come to the Main Office to pick up your parking tag.

NO Change or vending machine refunds:  The office does not have change or refunds.  For refunds, you will need to call the number on the machine.

NO Food deliveries:  Remember that no food deliveries are allowed during the school day.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

Next week Bradley High School will be operating on our semester exam schedule Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Please be sure to check the schedule so you are aware of the changes that will be made to our normal daily procedure.

Notes:

-Students are not required to be here if they do not have an exam on a particular day.

-Students are not required to be here until their scheduled exam.

-Students are not required to stay after the last exam of the day.  Students will be allowed to leave after the last exam of the day at 11:00am.  If students exit the building after 11:00am, they will not be allowed to re-enter unless approved by the administration.

-Lunch will be provided to all students from 11:00am-12:00pm on exam days.

-Buses will run on our normal schedule.  If students ride the bus in the afternoon, they have a couple of options:

  1. From 12:00-2:32pm, they can attend a scheduled review session with their teacher(s)
  2. Sit quietly in the commons, where they will be monitored by our study hall staff and hall monitors. Students will not be allowed to enter the academic hallways after 12:00pm unless they are in a class review session or making up an exam.

Tuesday, December 14th and Wednesday, December 15th beginning at 7:00pm, Bradley High School will be hosting its annual Winter Fest in the performing arts center. During Tuesday night’s event the Bradley High School Art Department will also be hosting its winter art show and Ceramics Sale from 6-8 in the Bradley Art Hallway.

Finally, next Friday will be the last official day of school for students before we begin winter break.

Have a great weekend and Go Jags!

Counselor News – December 2021

The School Counseling Department is working on recruiting for our second semester senior workforce opportunities and realize the importance of parent nominations/input to ensure no student falls through the cracks who may be great!

You may already be familiar with the Worthington Industries program.  We have expanded our partnerships, and the programs we are looking to match students with include:

Worthington Industries-manufacturing steel/cylinders

RT Moore-commercial plumbing/HVAC

EcoPlumbers-repair and installation plumbing

Rosati Windows-installation/contracting

We are focusing on seniors but will take names of juniors.  The opportunities we are working on are skilled trades with lots of opportunities for future advancement and even college tuition to be paid for if the student decides later to attend college.

If you know of a student who might be interested in one of these programs please contact the school counseling office.
