PREPARING FOR NEXT YEAR

As we begin the process to prepare for the 2021/22 school year, we know our families have many questions.  This information is for all parents/guardians, whether your student is attending in person or  the Online Academy.

Below are the steps you and your student will go through for each grade level.  Here are a few important things to remember for all ages:

  1. 2021/22 School Year Commitments are for the entire school year.  You will not have the option of choosing a half year, or switching between programs.
  2. The 2021/22 School Year Commitment forms will be sent out on April 5.  The only parents/guardians that need to fill out the Commitment Form are those enrolling their student in the Online Academy.  The deadline to enroll in the Online Academy is April 9.
  3. Teachers at the secondary level will be providing students with course recommendations in Home Access.  You can email your teacher if you have questions about their recommendation.
  4. Before making the commitment to the Online Academy be sure to review the available course offerings.  NOT ALL SECONDARY CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN THE ONLINE ACADEMY.

Please remember as we go through the next several weeks our principals, teachers and counselors are all available to help your family every step of the way.

All Incoming 9 -12 Grade Students

  • An information video will be posted on the High School web pages by March 1.  Memorial Middle School will be including information about Bradley High School for the 8th grade students this week.
  • Students entering grade 9 will select courses March 1-9 in HomeAccess.
  • Students entering grades 10, 11, and 12 will select courses March 10-26.
  • You will be selecting both the course type and location, whether in the building or in the Online Academy.  REMEMBER, NOT ALL CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN THE ONLINE ACADEMY.
  • If you want to pursue college classes as an alternative to a world language, AP, or Honors course, you need to email Tom_Woodford@hboe.org to explore the options.  A College Credit Plus Intent Form will also need to be filled out.
  • The week of April 5-9 all parents/guardians enrolling their student in the Online Academy will need to fill out the 2021/22 School Year Commitment form with your decision for the entire school year.

HAVE YOU CHECKED IN WITH YOUR CHILD?

We are now halfway through the 3rd quarter.  It’s important to check in with your child’s work habits.  Please encourage a set schedule for their ‘at home’ days.  If students need help during the day, that is the best time to reach out to teachers.  Unfortunately, many students start working in the evening and then do not have the resources available for assistance.  Working during the day allows for students to reach their teachers with questions and get responses in a timely manner.  If you need assistance on how to help them, please reach out to your child’s School Counselor.

REMOTE LEARNING DAYS PLANNED

Hilliard Schools is proud to announce that Hilliard Davidson High School will be one of two sites used to vaccinate educators from Franklin County in partnership with state and local health departments.

The vaccination clinic will be set up in the Davidson Field House Tuesday, February 2 through Saturday, February 6.  “We are proud to serve as a site to vaccinate not only our teachers but teachers from across central Ohio.” Said Hilliard Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen.  “This moves us one step closer to bringing our students back in full time.”

To make this happen, all Hilliard Schools will be moved to remote learning on Thursday, February 4, and Friday, February 5.  By shifting to remote learning, we protect against a potential substitute shortage in teachers, bus drivers, and other staff.  The vaccine has side-effects in some recipients and we must be mindful of the science.

Students are not required to follow a zoom schedule but will be required to completed work from each teacher.  For students that have questions or need help with assignments, teachers will have set office hours both days from 9-11:30am. They will share the details with their classes this week.

Check the DISTRICT WEBSITE for more information and an update of the Hybrid Calendar.

Tech Issues

There have been “slowness” issues reported to our tech department this week with Canvas.  We are in continuous communication with Canvas support investigating these causes.  We are also aware of issues with STAR testing.  Our network team is actively working to determine and solve these problems.  We apologize for the frustrations we know our families are having.  Please work with your student’s teachers for any disruptions.  We also encourage you to submit a tech ticket so our team can understand the scope of these issues.

Preparing for a Non-Traditional Graduation

Our district recognizes that the Class of 2021 has missed many milestones and meaningful high school experiences.  From prom in the spring to musicals, concerts, sports, and more.

In looking forward to graduation, we want to create a memorable, culminating experience.  We have begun talks with The Ohio State University and Huntington Park to look at outdoor ceremonies.  Using our own stadiums is not an option based on the number of people attending.  Current guidelines would not allow us to use more than 15% of the stadium seating, which is just not enough space.

Due to a possible venue change, graduation dates will likely change.  For example, Huntington Park can’t book events until the minor league baseball schedule is completed.  We won’t have concrete plans until after spring break.

Please be patient as we work to create the best and safest graduation.  We will continue to update our families along the way.
