Bradley eNews – August 28th, 2023

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

I want to thank all of you for your help this week. During our first four days of school our students have done an amazing job of making the start of the 2023-2024 school year memorable.

This week we held class meetings with our students to discuss expectations, class goals, and create an overall plan for a successful school year and future.

Come out tonight to support our football team as they play their first road game against Hilliard Darby.  Tickets are $7 for adults and $7 for students.  Sports passes are also available through the athletic website.  The game will kick off at 7:00pm.

Have a great weekend and Go Jags!

In order for athletes to participate, all of the following must take place.

**Physicals must be updated prior to participation.  Upload two forms from the physical — Physical Exam Form and Medical Eligibility Form — to the parent’s Final Forms account (paper physicals will not be accepted).

**Both athlete and a parent/guardian must sign all forms in Final Forms.

**Participation Fees may be paid beginning August 1 and must be paid prior to the first competition through your MyPaymentsPlus account.  All athletes, including reduced or free lunch, must complete the payment process through MyPaymentsPlus.  Reduced or free lunch must check out through MyPaymentsPlus by paying half (reduced lunch) or $0 (free lunch) payment.  Fees must be paid prior to the first competition.

ATHLETES MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITIVE SEASON UNTIL ALL OF THE ABOVE IS COMPLETED.

Meal Accounts Update

We appreciate the patience of our families over the zero-balance lunch account issue.  The problem has been corrected, and all accounts should be correct.  If you still have an issue, please click here to send an email.

Here are a few reminders from Aramark Food Service Director David Wilson:

  • Elementary lunch will cost $2.50, and secondary lunches will start at $3.00.
  • Breakfast will be $1.25. Students who are eligible for reduced-price meals will receive breakfast and lunch free of charge. If your student hasn’t tried breakfast in school, we encourage them to do so. A hungry student is a distracted student. Starting the day with a nutritious breakfast is the best way to prepare students for the learning environment. So please take advantage of this opportunity to help your child start the day off on the right foot.
  • Click this link to apply for free/reduced meals:https://www.hilliardschools.org/departments/food-services/
  • We hope that you and your child have a great year! Please feel free to call Mr. Wilson at 614-921-7492 with questions or comments.

Updated Family Trip Rules

On August 14, 2023, the Board of Education voted to amend Policy JED regarding family trips.  Effective immediately, each student is limited to one approved trip of FIVE school days or less per school year without loss of academic standing, provided proper assignment make-up work is completed, including tests and final examinations. More than one trip with a cumulative of FIVE days or less may be approved by the building principal or his/her designee.  Trips of more than FIVE school days shall not be approved except in extraordinary circumstances as determined by the superintendent or his/her designee.  If a student is absent for family travel outside of the FIVE days of excused absences allowed by the District, he/she will be considered unexcused from school and subject to truancy regulations.  Application for approval (JED-E) still must be made by a parent or guardian at least two weeks in advance.  Please make note of this change.  The handbooks and Board Policy web page will be updated as soon as possible.

Columbus Metropolitan Library’s School Help Centers Open

Columbus Metropolitan Library’s School Help Centers are now open, offering after-school help to the students in your family. Plus, they can get connected with virtual tutors for one-on-one help Monday through Friday from 2-11 p.m. through Brainfuse’s HelpNow program. Visit columbuslibrary.org/school-help to learn more.

Parent/Guardian Book Selection Exemption Form

If you wish to request that a book or resource not be checked out to your student from their Innovation & Discovery/Media Center, you must complete an exemption form.  You can access more information and the form by clicking here.  Each submitted form will accept up to 10 book titles/author’s names.   This exemption form is for the current school year and will need to be filled out each year.

Board Community Conversations

To prepare all students without exception to be Ready for Tomorrow, we must create authentic partnerships with our community.  We want to hear your ideas, thoughts, and opinions about how your schools should approach a changing landscape. That’s why the Hilliard Board of Education created the Community Conversation Program.  How we educate students is changing rapidly, and community input is essential.  These happen quarterly, and the next one is Tuesday, September 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hub.  The conversation topic will be focused on Student Attendance.  Please join us to share your voice.
