Washington Elementary Welcomes Artist Holly Odess for Mosaic Mural Project

Washington Elementary was honored to welcome artist Holly Odess to lead a special mosaic mural project with our students over the past week and a half. Holly, an experienced mosaic artist, has created murals for several schools attended by her grandchildren. This year, we were especially fortunate to have her bring her talent to our campus, as her grandson Ross is a current student at Washington.

Art teacher Scott Stevens took inspiration from a student’s yearbook cover design to create the initial mural concepts. With months of thoughtful planning, Holly designed two vibrant murals that were brought to life with the help of our students.

She was joined by her fellow mosaic artist and friend, Kathy, who guided students in the careful placement of hand-cut glass tiles—each piece fitting together like a large, intricate puzzle. These murals, spanning over seven feet, now serve as permanent works of art that reflect the creativity and collaboration of our school community.

Also joining the project was Ross’s other grandmother, Carolyn, who generously volunteered her time throughout the week. We are so grateful to Holly for her generous contribution to beautifying our school and for sharing her time and talents with our students. Special thanks also go to the dedicated parent and staff volunteers, as well as the entire Odess family, whose support helped keep the project running smoothly and on schedule. This endeavor was a true team effort—proof that when a community comes together, great things can happen.
