All Aboard the Hilliard History Express!

Our third grade students recently wrapped up an exciting project that combined history, creativity, and community exploration. After studying the history of The Makoy in Old Hilliard, students created original writing and artwork inspired by what they learned. Several students’ writing and artwork were utilized in an audio recording and art piece. Special thanks to Mrs. Kelly Riley for organizing and audio engineering and to Ms. April Moening for the final artwork.
To deepen their connection, students visited The Makoy on a field trip, bringing their studies to life. They also stopped at local businesses, collecting stamps in custom-made booklets—turning the day into a fun and meaningful scavenger hunt.
This hands-on project helped students see how history, art, and community are all connected. A big thank you to the local businesses, Hilliard Historical Society, and Destination Hilliard who made it all possible!
Stop by The Makoy to see their wonderful work on display, and continue earning booklet stamps in Old Hilliard anytime. Additional Hilliard History Express booklets can be found at participating businesses.
