This month, College Jump Start students shared their final projects at the Research Poster Symposium. These students have been researching a topic of their choice for the past two months, first completing an annotated bibliography, then an argumentative essay that included a field research component, and finally a poster and “elevator speech” designed for a general audience.
Students learned to read and synthesize scholarly sources as well as conduct interviews and surveys. A key part of the project is learning to understand and respond respectfully and effectively to counterarguments, too, whether in a formal writing assignment or informal conversation. We are grateful that they had a chance to test their arguments with an authentic audience at the Symposium, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work throughout the year!
