BLACK HISTORY MONTH:  Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. As a young adult, he applied to his hometown law school at the University of Maryland, but was denied entrance because of being Black. He later sued the school and won. And before he became a judge, he was a successful attorney who, most famously, won the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education case, which ended school segregation. Read the biography of Thurgood Marshall and other Black celebrities in the collection Black Heroes – Biographies in Destiny Discover.
