Congratulations to the following Student of the Month:  Brooke Yarwick, Tatum Boger, José Delgado, Natalie Lombardo, Mason Sharrock, Christina Ramirez, Glorimar (Andrea) Mendoza, Victoria Rivero Pieters, Zeyad Haj-Tamim, Madison Leiner, Akmal Mohammed, Mumdooh Nadeem, Angelo Carbetta

LatinX/Hispanic Heritage Month:  In honor of LatinX Heritage Month, check out the books about LatinX characters and by LatinX authors on display in the Media Center.  There is also a Collection in Destiny Discover that focuses on the Media Center books that celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  Today’s featured books are by Elizabeth Acevedo, a Dominican-American poet and author. In September 2022, the Poetry Foundation named her the year’s Young People’s Poet Laureate. Acevedo is the author of the young adult novels The Poet X, With the Fire on High, and Clap When You Land.

Fall HMS Social:  Please join us in an evening of fun and entertainment on M.S. Night, Friday Oct. 7th. There will be a M.S. Social on Friday Oct. 7th from 4:30 -6:00 pm in the Darby Field House. Admission is $5.00 and you must have a wrist band to enter. Wristbands can be purchased during lunch periods Thursday Oct. 6th and Friday Oct. 7th. Please DO NOT lose your wristband. The wristband will get you into the social as well as the varsity football game that evening. There will be a D.J. and a raffle. PTO will be selling pizza, drinks, and snacks as well.

Attention 8th Graders: Are you dedicated to academic excellence? Are you involved in clubs, organizations, and sports at HMS? Do you spend your free time volunteering in your community? Are you a leader in your school & community? If this sounds like you, then you may be eligible to apply to the NJHS! Take a look at the NJHS application available on the HMS webpage under clubs. Please see Mrs. Geoit or Ms Jasper for any questions.

The Hilliard Heritage Boys Golf Team finished their season on Saturday at the Blues Creek Invitational where 11 teams were competing. The Panthers finished Team Champions in the tournament 4 strokes ahead of Hilliard Memorial. Individually, Jensen Webb placed 3rd and Niko Caleodis placed 7th after a put-off to break a tie. What a great end to the season. To recap the season, the Boys golf team went 11-8, set the school record for lowest 9 hole team score, defended the Hilliard Cup, tied the school record for lowest 9 hole individual score, and finished 1st at the Invitational. Great job Panthers!!

The Heritage Gymnastics competed against McCord and Tri-Valley on Saturday October 1st.  Strong performances were made by Addison Peters on beam and Shawnye Angel on floor.  Great job girls!!

The 7th Grade Football Team picked up 2 wins this week!  The B team beat Memorial by a score of 18-12 and on Wednesday the team Beat a tough Hastings team 28-0.  The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday at Darby vs Memorial.

ALL 7th & 8th GRADE STUDENTS: Please Update your iPad to 15.7!   By the end of this week, iPads not updated by the following dates will lose Safari, Canvas, and the Camera apps until your device completes the iPadOS update.

The Heritage Cross Country Team traveled to race Hastings Middle School on Tuesday.  Both Boys and Girls won their races and many runners ran new personal best times!  Go Panthers!”

Congratulations to the Heritage Girls Tennis Team on winning a close match Wednesday night against Lancaster.  The netters won 3 to 2 in a close match with doubles team Elisha Monroy and Tess Ebenezer clinching the match with their win.  Congratulation’s girls!! The next match will be Thursday against Upper Arlington Hastings.  Good Luck team!!

8th grade Volleyball- The 8th grade Volleyball team had an exciting game last night and ended up beating UA Hastings middle school after 3 sets! The team will be back home next Monday playing against Sells Middle School, we would love to see you there!

National Hispanic Heritage Month:  Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  Check out the books about LatinX characters and by LatinX authors on display in the Media Center.  There is also a Collection in Destiny Discover that focuses on the Media Center books that celebrate this month.  Today’s featured books: Newberry Medal winner, Merci Suarez Changes Gears, and Merci Suarez Can’t Dance by Meg Medina. These books describe the life of a middle school girl in Florida who lives with her extended family and deals with fitting in at school and coming to terms with her beloved grandfather who has Alzheimer’s.
