From Hilliard Bradley’s First Graduating Class to a Career in Hand Surgery

Dr. Krishna Patel is a proud member of Hilliard Bradley High School’s first graduating class in 2011. More than a decade later, he has returned to Central Ohio, bringing with him a career shaped in part by the experiences, teachers and opportunities he had growing up in Hilliard.

Patel earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University before completing his surgery residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He recently completed his Hand and Microsurgery fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery and has joined Hand and Microsurgery Associates, where he is launching his orthopedic hand and upper-extremity specialty practice.

While his career has taken him through years of rigorous academic and medical training, Patel said some of the skills he relies on today began developing during his time in Hilliard.

“The challenging projects in AP Physics, Calculus, Chemistry, and Biology built the critical thinking skills I rely on daily in the medical field,” Patel said.

He also fondly remembers experiences outside of the traditional classroom that helped shape his path. One of those was ceramics with Ms. Ruffings, where he developed an appreciation for detailed, hands-on work.

“Learning to work meticulously with my hands in her class was incredibly rewarding, and looking back, it was great early practice for a career in hand surgery,” he said.

Patel’s connection to Hilliard is also deeply personal. It was at Hilliard Bradley where he met his high school sweetheart and now-wife, Shrie Dave. Today, the couple is thrilled to be living and working in the area while raising their two young daughters.

Throughout his medical training, Patel has remained committed to serving others. Locally, he has volunteered with organizations supporting Central Ohio families. He has also participated in medical outreach efforts in Morocco, Honduras and India, helping provide care and expand access to treatment for underserved communities.

As Patel begins this next chapter of his career in Central Ohio, he is also reconnecting with the community that helped shape his early years.

“Being part of Hilliard Bradley’s first graduating class in 2011 is a memory I will always cherish,” Patel said.

For Patel, returning to Central Ohio represents more than the next step in his career. It is also a return to the community, experiences and people that helped shape the person and professional he has become.
