Recipients of the Embrace Empower and Inspire Award

Hilliard City Schools is proud to recognize Carter Williams, a 5th grade teacher at Horizon Elementary, and Amanda Jenkins, a 5th grade teacher at Washington Elementary, as recipients of this month’s Embrace, Empower, and Inspire Award. Both educators were nominated by members of the school community for the meaningful impact they continue to make in the lives of students and families.
Carter Williams, a first-year teacher at Horizon Elementary, was recognized not only for his dedication in the classroom, but for his quick thinking during a recent medical emergency. At the end of the school day, Carter noticed a student choking and struggling to breathe. After quickly assessing the situation, he performed the Heimlich Maneuver, successfully helping the student regain her airway before escorting her to the school office and contacting her family.
While Carter has already made a strong impact in his first year at Hilliard City Schools, those who nominated him shared that his calm, selfless response and commitment to student safety truly demonstrated what it means to put students first.
Amanda Jenkins was recognized for the lasting influence she has had on students throughout her career at Washington Elementary. One former student, now preparing to graduate from college, shared how Mrs. Jenkins helped shape their academic confidence and love for learning more than a decade ago.
The nomination highlighted Amanda’s ability to create a classroom environment where curiosity was encouraged, students felt valued, and learning was personalized to help every child succeed. By recognizing individual strengths and providing opportunities for growth, Amanda empowered students to challenge themselves and build confidence that extended far beyond elementary school.
These staff members go above and beyond the expectations of The Hilliard Way and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and families every day.
