Good Afternoon Jaguar Parents,

This was another great week at Bradley High School. The third quarter of the school year is well underway, and I hope everything is going well for you and your students.

Is there a staff member who has made or is making a difference in your student’s life at school? Don’t forget, the Embrace-Empower-Inspire Awards are presented throughout the school year to staff members who exemplify the values of Hilliard City Schools and make exceptional contributions to our district.  You can click here to nominate a staff member from Bradley or from another building.  Award winners are recognized at their school building, on social media, and at Board of Education meetings each month.

Your child’s regular attendance at school is vital for their academic growth and success. Each day missed is a missed opportunity for learning and growth. Your support in promoting consistent attendance sets the stage for their overall development. Let’s work together to make every school day count.

Monday, Bradley High School will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Have a great three-day weekend, and Go Jags!!!

Cold Weather Precautions

As we anticipate colder temperatures next week, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of our students during their commute to school. With the possibility of colder weather affecting road conditions, there may be transportation delays. Please check your emails or phone messages in the morning for any updates regarding transportation delays. This will help ensure that your child is not waiting at the bus stop for an extended period in the cold.

For families with students who walk to school, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather.  We plan for outdoor recess time as much as possible and try to only keep students in when it dips below 20 degrees.

If your child is in need of winter gear, including coats, hats, gloves, or scarves, please reach out to your student’s teacher, counselor, or principal. We have donated winter clothing available, and able to provide the necessary winter gear to ensure your child stays warm and comfortable.  Stay warm and safe!

K-12 Math Course of Study Revision

The Hilliard City School District is in the process of revising its K-12 Mathematics Course of Study. We invite all families and the community to preview the K-12 Mathematics Draft Course of Study and provide feedback by clicking here.

Kindergarten Registration – Open

Hilliard City School District will begin Kindergarten Registration on Monday, January 8, 2024, for the 2024-25 school year.  If your child will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2024, they are eligible to start kindergarten during the 2024-25 school year.

Parents can access the registration website (on or after January 8, 2024) to complete online registration. The earlier you complete the registration process, the more likely your student will be able to attend the school assigned to your address.  You will also have more flexibility in scheduling the kindergarten screening.  Once you begin the registration process, you have 30 days to complete it, or your application will be deleted.  Once finished, the Welcome Center will schedule your screening appointment for August.

Please don’t delay.  The District uses registration numbers in the spring to determine how many kindergarten classes will be offered at each building. Contact the Hilliard City Schools Welcome Center at (614) 921-7096 with questions.  For more information, please visit the Hilliard City Schools’ website atwww.hilliardschools.org.

Community Survey

Beginning Monday, January 15, you may be contacted by phone or text to participate in a scientific community survey.  In collaboration with the district, Fallon Research will be conducting the survey to gather valuable feedback from our community. Your input is crucial, and we encourage your participation to help shape the future of our district. Thank you for your time and contribution.

Parent Accounts for Canvas and How to use them

Canvas is the online Learning Management System we use in Hilliard Schools. Your child’s teacher(s) may use Canvas in a variety of ways.  Some examples are: to provide access to important resources, to create online discussions where students can post and reply, and to receive, evaluate, and/or provide feedback on work your child submits digitally.  As a parent or guardian, you are already enrolled as an Observer in all of your students’ active Canvas courses.  To login to Canvas as an observer, go to hilliard.instructure.com or click on the link to Canvas from our HCSD Parent page. Your parent observer username and password match your username and password for Home Access Center.  If you want to learn more about how to navigate Canvas as a parent, find the course “How to Use Canvas for Parents” on the homepage after you login.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Parents,

Our first week back from break went well. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior scheduling meetings will begin January 22nd. Please start to talk to your students about their class choices to ensure they are making the best decisions about the classes they are scheduling. As we begin to build the building schedule for the 2024-2025 school year, it is essential that our students make informed scheduling decisions.

Grades will be available on January 9th. Please review your child’s grades and discuss strengths and areas of improvement to set goals for the third quarter. Take time to celebrate your child’s successes and continue to work with his/her respective teachers to achieve any improvement that needs to take place. This is also an excellent time to re-emphasize your expectations for your child for the remainder of the year.

Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!!!

Visitor Management System Roll Out in All Buildings

At the beginning of this year, Hilliard Schools began implementing a new visitor check-in system at several of our schools.  This has been both easy to use and is enhancing the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We are excited to take the next step and roll this system out to all schools in the district starting Monday, January 8, 2024.

School Safe ID will require all visitors to present a valid state-issued ID. The system will compare the visitor’s name and date of birth to the national database of registered offenders. It is managed through a kiosk in the front office. Visitors must scan their valid state-issued ID, and once approved, the visitor will be issued a badge that identifies his or her name and purpose for visiting the school. The system will only record the visitor’s name and date of birth. No additional date from the license will be entered into the system.  Visitors will not need to use the system should they simply need to drop off something in the main office.  The process should take less than ten seconds, and we know you will agree that the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is of utmost importance.

Kindergarten Registration – Save the Date

Hilliard City School District will begin Kindergarten Registration on January 8, 2024, for the 2024-25 school year.  If your child will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2024, they are eligible to start kindergarten during the 2024-25 school year.

Parents can access the registration website (on or after January 8, 2024) to complete online registration. Once you have completed the registration process and provided all required documentation, the Welcome Center will schedule your child’s kindergarten screening appointment for August.  Please don’t delay.  The District uses registration numbers in the spring to determine how many kindergarten classes will be offered at each building. Please make sure that your child is enrolled as soon as possible to secure a spot at the building assigned to your address.

Contact the Hilliard City Schools Welcome Center at (614) 921-7096 with questions.  For more information, please visit the Hilliard City Schools’ website atwww.hilliardschools.org.

Visitor Management System Roll Out Continues

At the beginning of the year, Hilliard Schools began implementing a new visitor check-in system at several of our schools.  This has been both easy to use and is enhancing the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We are excited to take the next step and roll this system out to all schools in the district in the coming month.

School Safe ID will require all visitors to present a valid state-issued ID. The system will compare the visitor’s name and date of birth to the national database of registered sex offenders.

Board Community Conversation

To prepare all students without exception to be Ready for Tomorrow, we must create authentic partnerships with our community.  We want to hear your ideas, thoughts, and opinions about how your schools should approach a changing landscape. That’s why the Hilliard Board of Education created the Community Conversation Program.  How we educate students is changing rapidly, and community input is essential.  These happen quarterly, and the last one of this year is Tuesday, December 5, at 9:00 am at the District Central Office.  The conversation topic will be focused on introducing the new Treasurer and learning more about the Five-Year Forecast.  Please join us to share your voice.

Hollyfest

The 40th Annual Hollyfest Arts & Crafts Show will take place at Hilliard Davidson HS this Saturday, December 2, from 9-3. A portion of this event goes to the scholarships that are awarded to graduates from all three high schools, totaling $31,000 annually.  Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors and students.
