Battle of The Books
The Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students in grades 4th-8th. Students read books and then come together to test their knowledge of the books they have read. This year, we will be competing against 7 other teams from central Ohio. They are teams from the following districts: Circleville, Groveport-Madison, Canal Winchester, New Lexington, Hilliard Weaver, Logan and Westfall.
The competition is similar in style to the TV series Family Feud with each team consisting of one, two, three, four or five members. Each team is given a list of 16 books to read throughout the year. In January the teams will come together and compete against each other on the first 8 books. They will meet again in May and compete on the next 8 books. Points will be added together for both sessions and the team with the most points will earn the title of winner of our Battle of The Books. This team, along with the second place team will then compete against the 7 area teams at the Ohio Christian University in Circleville. We will spend the day there and hopefully come home with the trophy! This is a fun program and we invite you to attend any of the competitions if your schedule permits.
On May 11th of last school year, we did win The Battle of The Books. It was our 3rd time in the competition. Congratulations to our 7th grade team of Jillian Weita (captain), Emily Buckley, Caitlyn Bockbrader, Magen Looney and Maura Kelley. They will be competing again this year and we are looking forward to another victory.
BOB books for the 2016-2017 school year are:
Thin Space by Jody Casella
Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Crash by Lisa McMann
I am Princess X by Cherie Priest
The rest TDB by the end of September
Each year, we have a Book Fair and invite you to attend if at all possible. The fair will last for one week, just before the December holidays. Each language arts class will have a scheduled time to shop at least once during that week. The fair will also be open for business the night of our annual Holiday Festival.
As always, the Book Fair will have a wonderful mix of books, software, art and craft kits and assorted small items such as pencils, erasers, bookmarks, etc. This will provide a wonderful opportunity to shop right before the holiday season and we hope to see you there.
