When Should You Keep Your Child at Home

Colds:

  • Temperature over 100˚ F
  • Encourage your child to drink plenty of liquids
  • The child can return to school when he/she is fever free for 24 hours without medicine

Diarrhea:

  • 3 or more times within 24 hours
  • The child can return to school when he/she is symptom free for 24 hours

Vomiting:

  • 2 or more times within 24 hours
  • The child can return to school when he/she is symptom free for 24 hours

Strep Throat:

  • A minor sore throat is usually not a problem
  • Strep throat is normally a severe sore throat with a headache and stomach ache
  • The child can return to school 24 hours after the antibiotic treatment has begun

Rashes:

  • Rashes are most contagious in the early stages
  • The child can return to school after they have seen a doctor and has been approved

Pink Eye:

  • If bacterial, the child can return to school after the child receives the first dose of antibiotics
  • If viral, the child can return to school after  approved by the doctor
