Weaver Winter Start dates

Hello all Weaver families of winter athletes,

We are getting closer to the winter season starting and here are the dates for tryouts for all of our winter sports.

Winter Cheer- Tryouts will be held on the following dates- 10/19 through 10/21 from 4-7 utilizing both gyms at WMS.   Choreography sessions will happen on the following dates as well; 10/23 from 2:45- 6PM in the Aux. gym and then 8-5 on both Saturday 10/24 & Sunday 10/25 to finalize competition cheer routine.  Coaches will be Stephanie Kozman (8th) & Cherie Painter (7th)

Weaver Wrestling– First day of practice will be Nov. 3rd per OHSAA for MS wrestling.  This is a day off for HCSD due to voting, so we will start sometime after Nov. 3rd.  Practices will be held M-F from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Auxiliary Gym at WMS.  Coaches will be Patrick Madden and his assistant will be Brad Cummins.  Wrestling is a combined team for both 7th & 8th graders.  We also will have a girls team, our numbers have not been great for girls, so the girls will practice with the boys until we have the minimum for a team, which is 7 girls that constitutes a full team at the MS level.

Weaver Basketball– First day of tryouts is allowed to be on Friday Oct. 30th per OHSAA.  Tryouts will be as follows:

  • Girls Basketball- Saturday 10/31- 8-9:30 AM, Sunday 11/1- 12:30-2:00 PM, and Monday 11/2- 4:30-6:00 PM are tryout dates and times.
  • Boys Basketball- Friday 10/30-6:30-8:30 PM, Saturday 10/31- 12-2 PM, and Monday 11/2- 6:30-8:30 PM are tryout dates and times.

Once teams are selected on Monday, practice schedules will be shared with the team.  We will have a Flex team for the boys, but not the girls again this year as numbers are not large enough to have a 3rd team.  Coaches are as follows:

Girls Basketball Coaches- 7th Grade- Chris Laslo, 8th Grade- Katie Voisient

Boys Basketball Coaches- 7th Grade- Chuck Boyd, 8th Grade- Gary Harris, Flex team- Griffin Guetle

Please make sure if you plan to tryout that you have signed up in Final Forms and chosen the sport you would like to participate in.  Here is the link to Final Forms.  Just click on the large Final Forms logo to create you and your child’s account.  https://www.hilliardschools.org/wildcat-athletics/parents/

Fees will be posted sometime before the week of 11/16 for winter sports.  The HS level has a few more sports, bowling, swimming, gymnastics, and they all have different start dates per OHSAA.  Just remember that all fees are to be paid before the 1st or 2nd contest of your season.  MS fees are as follows: $80 for the full amount, $40 for reduced amount, and $0 for the free amount.  If you qualify for the free portion of the free/reduced program, please go in and process a $0 payment, that is the only way we can clear the fees for your child.  Fees are paid through the MyPaymentsPlus site, it is different than Final Forms.  The first MS basketball game of the year is 11/19 and the first wrestling dual is 12/3.  Please do your best to make sure these fees are paid before those dates.

Every coach now has an HBOE.org email address.  You can email any questions about your particular sport to any of the coaches listed above at their email, for example, gro.eobhobfsctd-512a79@tneisioV_eitaK, just change the person’s name and you will be good.  If you have other questions that your coach cannot answer, please do not hesitate to give the Athletic Dept. a call at this number, 614-921-7230 is our direct line to the Athletic Office.  Please note, none of these coaches can send emails through Parent Square until their team has been selected, so emails before season will come via Final Forms.  Once teams are selected, coaches will set up their team and will communicate through Parent Square from then on.

If your child suffers an injury, please contact our trainer, Miranda Haas.  She is our OhioHealth trainer who is assigned to cover our Weaver athletes.  She is fantastic and does a terrific job working with our student-athletes.  She also has an HBOE.org email, so you can contact her if you have any injury related questions.

Thank you and good luck to all of our athletes this winter and at tryouts for those sports.
