Last week, Memorial students and JW Reason 5th Graders were privileged to hear New York Times best-selling author Alan Gratz speak about his numerous works and how real-life events have inspired him to write incredible young adult fiction. All Hilliard 8 Graders read his powerful novel, Refugee as part of their Language Arts Curriculum. He has also written other famed works such as Grenade, Code of Honor, and Prisoner B-3087, which are all inspired by true stories from world history. Alan then stayed and talked to students, took pictures, and personally signed their books. This was a special opportunity for students to see how history can inspire their creativity as well as gain insight from a successful living author.
