Frequently Asked Questions

It is not necessary to contact our office if your student is not riding the bus. However, if your student is the only one assigned to the stop, it is beneficial to notify us.

Due to all routes being fully loaded, we are not permitting students to ride buses to or from school, that they are not assigned to.

You simply complete a Private School Transportation Request form. This form must be completed by the parent/guardian. Upon receipt of the form our staff will determine eligibility and your student’s bus assignment will be determined. You will be able to see the stop information, two weeks before school starts by going to, Find My Bus on our transportation page.

No law requires that a parent or guardian is able to see the bus stop, from home. Students in Ohio, are assigned a bus stop according to OAC 3301:83-13. Students may have to walk up to 0.5 miles to an assigned stop. We encourage parents to accompany their child to the bus stop, whenever possible. This teaches the child safe habits when walking to and from the bus stop.

Ohio law requires children to be waiting at the bus stop, 5 minutes prior to the bus’s arrival. Bus drivers count the students at the stop, before they load and as they get on the bus. This helps to ensure all children are safely on board. If students are not waiting at the bus stop, the bus driver cannot count them and cannot be certain the students are all safely on board.  Waiting at the bus stop before the bus arrives further ensures that no one chases after the bus – this is a very dangerous thing to do. Hilliard City Schools requires students to be at the stops designated place of safety, five minutes prior to their scheduled pickup.
