Students from Hilliard Crossing Elementary recently completed an experience that allowed them to get firsthand experience shooting bows and arrows. Through the National Archery in Schools Program, Mr. Conklin, a certified Basic Archery Instructor taught students the fundamentals of archery shooting through the 11 Steps of Archery Success. Over the three-week unit, students in grades 4 and 5 became familiar with the archery equipment, range set-up and the shooting process. Students who demonstrated ELITE knowledge and shooting skills were selected to participate in a collaboration art and archery project under the direction of Ms. Swabb and Mr. Conklin. These ELITE archers were tasked with shooting paint filled water balloons, allowing the paint to fall on a canvas that was scattered beneath creating a Splatter Art mural for the front hallway.
