About the Hilliard Band Program

STAFFWe are fortunate enough to have several band directors on staff in Hilliard. Most directors teach some 6th grade band as well as their focus area. Select the link to read more about and contact our staff.

INSTRUMENTS:  Sometime in January , all fifth grade students will attend an instrument demonstration at their school. Your child might have already chosen their favorite instrument, but which one is the best choice for them? While making this decision, consider several things. Ask your child which SOUND they like best. When they practice, that’s what they’ll be listening to! (Some students pick instruments by what they SEE, and this novelty wears off quickly.) These instrument demos will allow them to hear all the different instruments available to them and which sounds they like. Select the link to the left to read more about each band instrument.

SCHEDULE:  Band classes start at the onset of the school year. Students will be placed in a band class that fits the needs of their schedule.  The band class is a period of the day that meets everyday for 50 minutes.

EXPECTATIONS:  Students will receive a letter grade in band.  Home practice and evening concerts will be part of the final grade each grading period. Please see the link to the left for more information about practice and concerts.
