As a follow up to the School Start Time Task Force’s work last spring, the Board of Education approved a resolution in support of later school start times for Elementary and Middle School students.
After reviewing the top two options from the Start Time Task Force we combined parts from each option for the recommendation. Therefore, in the 2017/18 school year the 6th grade and middle school start times will move back to 8:00 a.m. with a dismissal at 2:45 p.m. We are also going to push back our elementary schools 15 minutes. (The elementary schools will have two starting times, those will be determined in January.)
This does come with an additional cost of around $130,000. We will need to add three additional routes. Our Tharp students will no longer be able to be transported with Weaver students due to identical start times. We will also need a separate bus route for St. Brendan students.
We will begin working to tweak our ILC shuttle routes and times along with shuttle schedules for other programs such as the Bridge Math Class, gifted programs, ELL programs, etc.
We know this will cause changes for our families, and we wanted to give you as much time as possible to make any necessary adjustments to your schedules.
