What Students Have To Say About Career Mentorship . . .
One thing I want to discuss is how happy I am that I took this course. While I was mentoring Friday, a bunch of medical students were at the hospital. All of them had to sit outside the OR and watch the screen, meanwhile little old me got to stand inside and view an actual surgery maybe 6 feet away at most. I feel like I’m getting a jump start in my career where I once lacked. For almost all of high school, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer. But I cannot sit at a desk all day! So I never have taken a medical science class in high school. But going into college, I will have hours upon hours of actual field experience. I don’t feel behind anymore, I actually feel ahead, and it’s a very comforting feeling with all the stress of college.
I have learned that ONE SINGLE EXPERIENCE CAN GIVE YOU A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT OUTLOOK ON LIFE. I thought I had my choice of career picked out for me prior to this class. I learned that this was not the case. Therefore, I have learned that research and experience are key to figuring out what is best for you.
Career Mentorship is not only a class to me but it is more of a life experience that I will be able to carry with me and use in the future. . . I am so happy I decided to apply!”
Career Mentorship helps us not only know the career field we want to go into but HELPS US START GETTING INTOE THE HABITS THAT RESPONSIBLE ADULTS POSSESS.
Before this class, I ‘knew’ I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up but I wasn’t focused on the necessary steps that would help me to reach that goal.
I have learned how to properly and FORMALLY COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS THROUGH EMAIL AND IN PERSON. I have learned the importance of following up with others as well.
I have learned HOW TO COMMUNICATE ON A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL IN THE WORK FIELD. I CREATED MY OWN RÉSUMÉ WHICH I USED TO GET A JOB shortly after beginning Career Mentorship. I learned also how to present myself during an interview which also helped outside of the program. This class taught me a lot about the outside world that really opened my eyes and gave me a realistic picture of the career field I hope to pursue after college.
The biggest skills I have learned are professionalism and time management. When you get a look at the real world and have to actually work, you have to know how to be professional about things and you need to be able to act professionally. TIME MANAGEMENT WAS HUGE in this class because you had to be able to get your priorities straight and determine what was important.
I have learned HOW TO BETTER MANAGE MY TIME IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE, whether it involves school, work or internship opportunities.
Creating goals for myself when writing my life management plan has been a big help to me !
I have learned PATIENCE AND PERSISTENCE.
I have learned the importance of ADAPTING TO DIFFERENT SITUATIONS AND STEPPING OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE.
Preparing for a career now is going to help so much after high school, and I am so glad to see where that will take me.
Organization and time management are keys in everything in life. I also learned that networking is also very important because you can open many doors for yourself. I also improved my leadership, flexibility, creativity, and communication skills.
Initially you cannot just assume that everything will work out by itself alone. You have to go out and create your own opportunities and experiences for yourself. In life, you cannot expect that everything will come to you so you have to make it happen for yourself. Life is what you make of it so make it what you want; but that takes a lot of time and effort but it is all worthwhile when you reach your goal in the end.
Mentoring in a competitive field, this course was able to give me a preview of what my rotations will look like my 6th year of school. I learned better communication skills and how to balance my schedule. This class made me into more of a professional, preparing me for college and the business world.
I was able to understand the inner workings of a creative team and how I can benefit from working with people that have different ideas and personalities than I do.
The biggest skills I learned that I believe will help me in my life, is my ability to create and continue to update my professional portfolio and resume. Also, the interviewing skills I’ve acquired during mentorship will help me to be confident in the future with any important encounter.
The class was very helpful and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about a specific job or professionalism. I learned a little about myself and picked up on a tremendous amount of skills.
This class has given me a strong foundation that will help me in life. . . I am very thankful I took this class and that I chose to try something that was out of my comfort zone.
I have learned the number of people that I have networked with and the people they know has been very helpful.
Thanks to my interview and trying to figure out my schedule, this experience has made a lasting impact.
