Math 6 at Hilliard Station is based on the 6th Grade Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Students will begin the year with a focus on number systems and ratios and proportional reasoning. New concepts and skills your child will learn throughout the year include expressions and equations, inequalities, the use of tape diagrams, double number lines, box and whisker plots, and also develop an understanding of statistical variability and distribution of data.
The curriculum builds on K-5 content and explores these topics listed above, along with geometry and fractions, to build deeper conceptual understandings. As students will be expected to engage in deeper reasoning and critical thinking through word problems and application of content and skills, frequent practice is highly recommend. This practice, both in and out of class, is directly aligned to the assessments for the course. In addition to the resources listed below, students may also use their Math 6 iBooks (available through Canvas) as other supplemental resources to the classroom instruction and practice.
