Hilliard City Schools to Conduct Annual Safety Training Day

On Monday, August 17, Hilliard City Schools will partner with the Hilliard Division of Police and the Norwich Township Fire Department to conduct its annual districtwide Safety Training Day.

The training brings together school staff, law enforcement, and emergency responders to practice coordinated responses to a variety of emergency situations. These exercises are a critical part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining safe learning environments for students and staff.

Community members may notice an increased presence of police, fire, and emergency vehicles throughout the day. Emergency personnel will stage at Hoffman Trails Elementary School, and training exercises will take place at Hilliard Darby High School. These buildings and Heritage Middle School will be closed to the public for the duration of the training. Portions of the exercises may also include simulated emergency activity. There is no actual emergency. We ask community members to avoid these locations so participants can complete the training safely and without interruption.

These realistic scenarios provide an opportunity for school employees and first responders to strengthen communication, practice decision-making under pressure, and evaluate emergency procedures in a controlled environment. Following each exercise, teams review their response and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

The district remains committed to working closely with our public safety partners to ensure our schools are as prepared as possible. While we hope these skills are never needed, we believe training together is one of the most important investments we can make in protecting the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community.
