Superintendent John Marschhausen is proud to join the Hilliard Food Pantry’s Steering Committee for their Capital Campaign. “Education must continue to face new challenges to meet the needs of our students. What is required from our schools is changing. It’s no longer enough to prepare students academically,” said Marschhausen. “We must prepare students socially, emotionally, and psychologically. Just about 25% of our students are at or below the poverty line. Our partnership with the Food Pantry is critical in feeding our students.”
The goal of this campaign is to generate $197,250 for a permanent home for the Hilliard Food Pantry. They have space at the Life Community Church, but need to make renovations and purchase new equipment.
The Hilliard Food Pantry is operated and governed by the non-profit Hilliard Community Assistance Council. The plans include expanding their services with a goal of reaching 20% more eligible clients annually. They also will increase the number and types of services to clients. Their future service plans include, but are not limited to:
- Increase the number of allowable pantry visits to twice a month
- Nutrition education and cooking classes
- Benefit assistance
- Tax preparation services
- Workforce development
The Hilliard School District is committed to partnering with our community organization who help our students. You can find more information about the Food Pantry on their web page.
