CLUBS:

Help Key Club and STAR HOUSE (a homeless shelter for youth 14-24 years old) by donating socks for our SOCKTOBER collection. Drop your socks donation off in the main office box with your name, club you want your hours to go towards and your Hilliard Student ID.

Ski and Board Club- we will have an optional parent / student info meeting at 7pm on Oct 20th at Darby High School’s experimental theater room. Sign ups and payments will start on Monday, Oct 25th.

The Hilliard Schools eSports & Gaming Club will take place every Thursday, starting October 21st, from 3-6 pm at Game Arena on Fishinger Blvd. Admission to Game Arena is free for members during club hours, and students can play any games not rated “Mature”. Food and drinks are also available for purchase at the concession counter. All Hilliard high school students are welcome! Email eric_howard@hboe.org with questions!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

Julia Alvarez is a Dominican-American poet, novelist, and essayist. She rose to prominence with the novels: “How the García Girls Lost Their Accents”, “In the Time of the Butterflies”, and “Yo!”.  Alvarez’s awards include the Pura Belpré and Américas Awards for her books for young readers, the Hispanic Heritage Award, and the F. Scott Fitzgerald Award.  In 2013, she received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama.

Listen up juniors and seniors. We have a lot of colleges here this week. You can sign up in Naviance for a pass. Tomorrow we have Miami University, Capital and Findlay. Wednesday, Kansas City Art and Design, Xavier, Bowling Green and Whitman College will be visiting. We will finish on Thursday with Otterbein and Mount St. Joe’s.

If you are looking for a job, check out the job board outside of the Guidance Office. Four more companies are looking to hire – The Honey Baked Ham Store on Sawmill Road, Beer Barrel is looking for part time employees, Henri’s Cloud Nine Columbus will give you 30% off your prom gown when you complete a full season and SafeSplash swim school is hiring life guards and swim instructors.

SPORTS:

The Davidson girl’s basketball staff is excited about the upcoming season. All girls interested in playing basketball are required to attend tryouts. Tryouts will be held on Friday, October 22nd from 3:00-5:00, Saturday, October 23rd from 10:00am-12:30pm, and Sunday, October 24th from 1:00pm- 4:00pm. Attention any girl, grade 9-12, interested in playing basketball that is not currently involved in a fall sport – the girls basketball program will be holding open gym each Sunday at Davidson from 7-8:30 pm through October 17.
