In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month we recognize the impact of Hispanic culinary excellence. Hispanic culture has greatly influenced American cuisine. Among the most popular Hispanic dishes in the United States are tortillas, tamales, tacos, enchiladas, salsas- as well as guacamole and pico de gallo.

All sophomores and juniors will be attending the Skilled Trades Exposition at the Franklin County Tuesday, Oct. 10. Please check your “Class of” Canvas page for your Bus #, Chaperone, and time you will be leaving on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Sophomores who have a 4th or 5th period lunch will eat during 6th period on that day. All Juniors will eat during 4th period lunch.

This weekend, Davidson Theatre will present its first show of the year – Peter/Wendy. Show times are Friday night at 7, and Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 2. Tickets are available at hilliarddavidsontheatre.com or at the door.

Fears was the first Hispanic Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1970.  From 1948 through 1956, Fears played wide receiver and tight end for the Los Angeles Rams. In his nine NFL seasons, Fears caught 400 passes for 5,397 yards and 38 touchdowns. Later in his life he became an assistant coach for the Rams and the Packers.  He was also an entrepreneur and military veteran.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month we recognize Esperanza Rising,  a young-adult historical fiction novel by Pam Muñoz Ryan.  Esperanza Rising joins the Scholastic Gold line, which features award-winning and beloved novels.  Esperanza Rising has received numerous awards including the Jane Addams award in 2001 and the Pura Belpré medal in 2002. 

Congratulations to the Wildcat Marching band who competed at Valley High School over the weekend. They earned straight superior ratings from all 7 judges and walked away with Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, and Grand Champ! Way to go Wildcat Band!!

This award, established in 1996, is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month we recognize Roberto Clemente. Roberto Clemente was one of the greatest Latino baseball players of all time.  He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and helped them win the World Series in 1960 and 1971.  There is a statue of him outside of PNC Park in Pittsburgh.  He was also a humanitarian who worked in the off-season organizing charity drives and donating his time and money.
