I believe having good friendships is very important throughout your whole life, especially during high school. Having good friendships allows you to have people to make memories with, have their shoulders to cry on, and have people to simply go through life with.

Making friends or keeping close friends gets difficult during your high school years. In my experience, friendships have gotten hard for many reasons. Everyone starts to have a lot going on such as academics, sports, clubs, jobs, performing arts, and extra circulars. Students also have to deal with making time for their families, getting ready for college or life after high school, and other relationships. People should continue to prioritize their friends though. People get very caught up with many things without trying and let friendships fade.

Megan Mummert (12) explained, “Keeping friendships through high school can be tough, but it takes patience and effort and in the end the lifelong friendships will be worth it.”

Friendships should be beneficial for both people and they should help both of the people grow and prosper from that friendship. It is important have friendships, but having bad friendships doesn’t help you at all. You should only have good friends that build you up. Friends shouldn’t tear you down or feel threatened by your successes. If you wouldn’t let a boyfriend or girlfriend treat you a certain way you shouldn’t let a friend treat you that way either. I think people tend to forget this and begin to let friends treat them unfairly for various reasons.

There are ways to keep your friendships strong. Communication is very helpful to letting the other people know how you feel. You should tell your friends if you feel like you’re drifting from them or you miss them. Nicely saying how you feel helps to avoid fights and drama. Making time for your friends in your busy life is also very important. This helps friends stay close and let them know that they are important in each other’s lives. Supporting one another and helping them anyway you can is also very beneficial.

Janelle Sargent (12) said “My friends are one of my biggest priorities. They make life easier because they go through it with you and they are there for you. Having a solid group of friends gives you other perspectives and they encourage you to be the best version of yourself you can be.”

I have many good friends and it makes my life way easier and exciting. Being able to continue having good friendships is very beneficial in my life and I encourage everyone to make friends and work on their friendships in their lives.
