WHAT IS YOUR STUDENT DOING ON THEIR ‘AT HOME’ DAY?

It is imperative that you look at HOME ACCESS regularly to check your child’s grades.  Some students are still struggling with being self-driven to complete assignments on their ‘at home’ work day.  We believe it is important to establish and maintain a schedule similar to the school day on your child’s at-home work day.  We encourage students who are not in the building to log into canvas courses in the morning to be proactive with any questions they may have regarding remote day assignments.  This practice not only helps promote a consistent routine for learning but also provides an opportunity for support from our teachers during work hours.  Teachers are at Bradley High School from 7:20 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. daily. Email and canvas messages are checked regularly before and after school as well as during teachers’ planning periods.  Emails or messages outside of the traditional school day may be answered the following day.

Update from the Superintendent on Staying in Hybrid

Superintendent John Marschhausen has a video update to share details of how we are using local data to remain in Hybrid.  Please take a moment to watch this video.

Franklin County’s Public Alert Level is Red today, and as community spread around the state is on the rise, we are confident in our local CATS data. We will remain in the Hybrid Instructional Mode per the Board of Education resolution. The district’s partnership with Franklin County Public Health, Columbus Public Health, and the Ohio State University has made the inclusion of local data in our decision-making process a reality.

At the district level, we are not currently exceeding the three thresholds approved by the Board of Education. There is no evidence of COVID-19 spread in our classrooms. We are confident that our practice of six feet of social distancing and the use of masks is working.  We thank your teachers and building teams for leading our mitigation efforts to keep our students and staff safe.

We will continue to monitor case counts, and community spread and keep our families updated.

Q&A with the Superintendent

All families will have until October 30 to decide if their student/s will attend the Online Academy or our Flexible Learning Modes for the second half of the year.  If your student is currently in a building, and you want to continue with that learning mode, you don’t have to do anything.  If you want to enroll, re-enroll, or leave the Online Academy, the primary guardian will need to fill out an Intent form before the deadline for each of your students.

You can find that form on the Online Academy Web page.  Whichever choice your family makes this will be a commitment for the second half of the 2020/21 year.

To support our families who speak Spanish, Arabic, and Somali we will host informational webinars led by our bilingual liaisons. The liaisons will present parents with information about the second semester.

Spanish – October 27 at 6:30 pm

Somali – October 27 at 6:30 pm

Arabic – October 28 at 6:30 pm

Zoom details for all sessions will be posted on our web page soon.

Free Breakfast and Lunch for the rest of the School Year

The USDA has again extended food service program waivers that allow all students to eat breakfast and lunch free of charge.  Because of these federal waivers, Hilliard City Schools Students may eat breakfast and lunch free of charge while at school, during eLearning, and for those in the Online Academy.  This will now continue through the end of the 2020/21 school year.

You can find pick-up instructions on our Food Service web page.

Parent University

Hilliard City Schools is committed to partnering with our parents in order to fulfill our mission of preparing our students to be Ready for Tomorrow. Parent University is an opportunity for our community to learn more about the districts’ foundational goals; Academics, Mindset, and Interest.

Due to the pandemic, we are not able to hold an in-person Parent University like the past few years.  Instead, we are bringing you sessions On-Demand.  Beginning on Saturday, October 24, you can visit our Parent University page and take part in our virtual sessions.  You can hear from our teachers on how to help anxious students, get remote learning tips, hear about graduation requirement changes for the class of 2023 and beyond, and more.
