PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE INFORMATION

Parent/Teacher Conference Night is this Wednesday, October 14, 2020.   Bradley High School teachers will be available for individual conferences from 2:30pm – 6:30pm.  Since we are unable to meet in person, these conferences will be held via Zoom (video conferencing platform).

Bradley will be using an online format for scheduling the conferences.  You can access the LINK HERE and then click on the teacher’s name.   After you select a time, you will receive a confirmation email.  You will also receive the Zoom Link for the conference on the afternoon of October 13.  If you do not have computer access, please call 614-921-7400 option 4 for assistance with scheduling your conferences.  A phone conference is also an option.   Please keep in mind that we have a limited number of conference times that can fill up quickly so please visit our website as soon as possible.  The link to schedule a conference will be taken down on the morning of October 13.

FIRST GRADING PERIOD ENDS WEDNESDAY!

The end of the grading period is October 14.  It is imperative that you look at HOME ACCESS to see your child’s grades at this time.  Some students are still struggling with being self-driven to complete assignments on their ‘at home’ work day.  Those missing assignments will show as a zero.  Please talk to your child.  Schedule a conference with the teacher.  We must work together to help our children be successful.

OTHER EVENTS HAPPENING AT BRADLEY

Reminder: Remote Learning for All Students Not Taking SAT or PSAT on October 14

This Wednesday, there will be in-person testing for the SAT and PSAT at Bradley High School.  All seniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT and juniors – who sign up – will take the PSAT.

Please note – Even though this is a “Group A” hybrid day, all freshmen, all sophomores, and all students who are NOT testing will be in remote learning (at home) on Wednesday, October 14.

Once again – these students, who are NOT testing, will be learning at home through instruction on Canvas.   Since our staff will be proctoring these tests, there will be no “live Zooms” on this day.  As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

ATTENTION SENIORS AND JUNIORS WHO ARE TESTING

SAT  / PSAT – OCTOBER 14

Reminder, all seniors have the opportunity to take the SAT and juniors – who signed up – will take the PSAT at Bradley High School THIS Wednesday 10/14).  The room assignments are listed on the Media Center windows.  Also, you can find the room assignments on Class of 2021 or Class of 2022 Canvas page.

Everyone should have received an SAT or PSAT Student Guide.  If you have not received one, please stop by the Guidance Office before Wednesday.

Important Details:

  • Doors will open at 7:20 AM on 10/14.  The test will begin at 7:40 AM.  Please make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to your testing location.   Due to strict guidelines with the SAT, students who are late will NOT be allowed to test.
  • Please know your room assignment before Wednesday! Regardless of Hybrid group, all seniors taking the test must report to Bradley on Wednesday.
  • All of your electronics must be turned off during the test (phones, watches, AirPods, ETC).  We recommend you do NOT bring this into the testing location.  If you do, your belongings need to be stored in the front of the room.  If your device goes off, you could invalidate your test (and other consequences).  It is VERY important we follow this rule!
  • Bring an ID,  a #2 pencil, and an approved calculator! (Your student ID or driver’s license will work.) See below for calculator details.
  • Once students are dismissed from their classrooms after testing, they are dismissed for the day.   This could be between 11:30 AM – 1 PM depending on their testing.   We ask that students exit quietly as other students may still be testing in the building.  There will be “grab and go” lunch options available in our cafeteria/commons area.  If students leave after their test, they need their own transportation.
  • Make sure to get plenty of sleep on Tuesday, eat a good breakfast on Wednesday, and bring a positive mindset to your testing location!  We believe in YOU!

MORE SAT INFORMATION

Per Ohio state law, the Ohio Department of Education will pay for one administration of a college readiness examination to all juniors.  Due to COVID-19 school closures in the spring, we were unable to complete the SAT administration this past April.  On October 14, all seniors, who were scheduled to take that spring test, will have the opportunity to take the SAT test at Bradley.  This date was pre-assigned by the state and SAT.  On October 14th, students will report to school, and the district will mimic the administration procedures typically enforced at a National, Saturday administration of the SAT, with appropriate social distancing and other safety protocols.

Below is additional information that will be helpful on both test day and leading up to test day.  Please contact our school counselor’s office for additional questions or clarification.  Students will NOT need to register individually; we will register students at the district level directly with SAT.  Lastly, all seniors who are taking the SAT will need to report to Bradley on October 14, regardless of Hybrid group.

  • All SAT test security measures will be in place for this state assessment.  Students should be prepared NOT to bring their cell phones into the testing location, and should have proper identification with them. (Current school ID, driver’s license, state ID, etc.)
  •   Students who are found to be in violation of the “No Cell Phone” rule may have their phone confiscated, and face additional discipline consequences, including possible suspension.
  • A portion of the pre-administration will allow students to choose up to four colleges they would like their scores to be sent.
  •  Students should plan to bring an SAT approved calculator to the test administration.
  • Students should be able to see their scores from the state administration in their SAT college board account approximately 4 weeks from the test date.
  •  Please check the College Board website for specific questions.  https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat

Due to COVID-19, the SAT is subject to change depending on our current instructional mode at Bradley.  We will continue to communicate changes and updates as soon as possible.

District Remains in Hybrid

The Hilliard Schools will remain in the Hybrid Learning educational mode.  (If your student is in the Online Academy, this only impacts them if they go into a building for a class.)  We will continue to update our families through our instructional mode web page and email, texts, and phone calls if changes occur.

Second Semester Intent Forms Coming Soon

As we transition into the second half of the 2020/21 school year, we want to honor our commitment to our families and allow you to decide whether you want to be a part of the Online Academy or go back into our Flexible Learning Modes.

All families will have from October 16 until October 30 to decide if their student/s will attend the Online Academy or our Flexible Learning Modes.  A second semester intent form will be emailed to primary guardians on October 14.  If your student is currently in a building, and you want to continue with that learning mode, you don’t have to do anything.  If you want to enroll, re-enroll, or leave the Online Academy, the primary guardian will need to fill out the Intent form before the deadline for each of your students.

Whichever choice your family makes this will be a commitment for the second half of the 2020/21 year.   There will be more details in the email on the 14.

Broadband Access Assistance

We know that students without access to a computer and a reliable high-speed (broadband) internet connection are at risk of falling behind. Partners throughout Central Ohio have worked together to launch the Central Ohio Broadband Access Program to provide eligible K-12 students and their families with computers and 12-months of broadband internet service for as little as $20.  You can find more details and register for this program supported but MORPC, the ESC of Central Ohio and PC’s for People by clicking here.  This is not a Hilliard Schools program.

Library Homework Help

Columbus Metropolitan Library has unveiled a new School Help webpage, where K-12 students can get help with homework and reading. CML’s new School Help webpage features:

·         Online K-12 Homework Help, with staff ready to answer homework questions and help with reading practice via text, chat and phone Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

·         HelpNow, a resource that offers 24-hour access to study tools and test preparation, plus online tutors available every day from 2-11 p.m.

 Girls Tech Day

Amazon Web Services Girls’ Tech Day is going virtual this year!  We hope that you will encourage your students to join us on a magical and adventurous journey to explore Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Coding, Virtual Reality, Robotics, and more!  This complimentary event will inspire and motivate girls and young women, ages 8-24, to develop and pursue their interests in technology.

Activities are designed so that students can go at their own pace and join the event as many times as they like between November 14 – 28. Our program also supports teachers and staff who want to participate with their classes, girls’ tech groups and clubs.

Only parents, guardians and teachers may register participants under the age of 18. All activities require an electronic device like an iPad, computer, or mobile phone with Internet connection.  Registration is now open, simply click here.
