Basketball has played such a huge role in many lives, with the sport comes the athletes and role models that many kids look up to. Kobe Bryant was one of these athletes that many loved watching play and grow. January 26th, 2020 a helicopter crash ended the life of Bryant while on his way to a basketball camp with his daughter and 7 others. The news broke late that morning, with news articles flooding the internet and friends of his sharing their favorite stories of his time with them. The deaths of the Bryant family affected many people that never even met him because of how impactful his life was.
Kobe Bryant was known for his basketball career and was known as a family man, he had three daughters and was happily married. Coach Norris noted that after his amazing basketball career, “he had started to do so many great things in the world/community with his money, stature, and his commitment as a father.” At the age of 38 he had let go of his own basketball career to do many other things in his life. David Heath (9) said, “he was a player that you always watched sink a basket, and he was amazing to watch.” Though he was the main headline of the helicopter crash the Bryant family also lost their second oldest daughter Gigi Bryant who was 13; she was a basketball player following in her father’s footsteps. The two often watched basketball games together and were major supporters of the sport.
His life was short but very memorable, he was an amazing student and athlete, his basketball skills were great and he was an unforgettable friend to many. Abby Neil (9) noted that Kobe Bryant’s death was, “one of the saddest things to have happened.” The community hasn’t taken a break since the news dropped and has already made multiple memorials for people to visit. Many have signed a petition to make Bryant the new NBA logo so that his memory will live on forever. Kobe Bryant will go down in history as one of the greatest athletes to live, but not just for his skill while playing but for his personality and warm heart that made him the man he was.
