More than a hundred students, parents and siblings sang, danced, and played at Jim Gill’s “Nationwide Campaign for Play” concert hosted by the Preschool PTO this month. Jim Gill is a musician, author, and child development specialist that presents his recordings and books as opportunities for playful interactions between children and parents.
The students and staff have been preparing for this concert by singing and dancing along to the music of Jim’s seven award-winning CDs. Songs such as “The Silly Dance Contest”, “Oh Hey, Oh Hi, Hello”, and “One From the Left” not only engage the children in active motor play and development but integrate early learning developmental skills of language, math, social studies concepts and social emotional skills through rhythm, rhyme, and repetition.
Research shows that daily music experiences can make many valuable contributions to young children’s emerging academic success. This concert provided an opportunity to illustrate to our preschool families how powerful interactive music, dance, and play can be can in child development.
