Community members are invited to the Dedication and Open House of the first educational center of its kind in Central Ohio. The McVey Innovative Learning Center (MILC) offers a variety of cutting edge coursework, experiences and teacher support in a cost-effective manner. Specifically it allows some of the district’s existing programs to be centralized and to expand other options such as after school enrichment, college guidance services and capstone experiences to better meet the needs of today’s students.
“The MILC is a game changing win for everyone,” said Superintendent John Marschhausen, Ph.D. “Making sure today’s students are college and career ready requires a different kind of a more personalized educational experience. The center opened through great community and business partnerships, a reallocation of resources and staffing while also providing Hilliard City Schools with a competitive edge in the rapidly changing school business market. No new tax dollars were used to open the MILC and it meets our goal of helping every student to be ready for tomorrow.”
Hilliard City Schools’ students can plug-in to the MILC through four networks: College Jumpstart, Imagination, Personal Success and Young Professionals. Each network includes various courses and enrichment opportunities that enhance a student’s learning. For example, through the College Jumpstart Network a student can get a head start by taking college level courses where they can earn up to 34 semester credit hours while still in high school. The Young Professionals Network provides real-life experiences through business and teacher academies as well as the popular mentorship program. There are 24 in-person courses and more than 50 online courses offered through the MILC that each offer students a unique way to explore their interests, personalize their education or become better prepared for their next step in life.
“The opening of the MILC is a testament to the hard work of all staff members and the great partnerships Hilliard City Schools has developed,” noted Director of Innovation and Extended Learning Brent Wise. “We have come together as a community to support the changing needs of today’s students and to ensure they are ready for life after graduation.”
Hilliard City Schools’ residents are invited to attend the Dedication ceremony at 4 p.m. followed by an Open House until 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 8. The MILC is located at 5323 Cemetery Road in Hilliard. To learn more about the MILC visit the district’s website at www.hilliardschools.org/ilc/.
