The Transportation Services team of Hilliard City Schools welcomes our new preschool and kindergarten students aboard! We hope that as the parent/guardian you will find your first experience with school transportation to be pleasant for both you and your child. Riding the school bus for the first time can be an exciting experience for a little one. In an effort to make this a positive experience, there are a few details that you should know.
When school begins please complete and attach the yellow “BUS INFORMATION” card to your student’s book bag. You will receive your card(s) at your student’s open house (meet the teacher night). The card must be worn every school day for the entire school year.
All students riding the bus to school need to be at their assigned bus stop five minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time.
Students who are transported home at mid-day must be released to a parent, guardian or other authorized individual. We request that you please be at your student’s stop 10 minutes prior to the bus’ scheduled drop-off time. This will help in the event that the bus is running ahead of schedule to be sure your student is dropped off appropriately to the care of someone.
Kindergarten students who are transported home at the end of the school day may be let off the bus at a group bus stop with other Hilliard students. If the kindergartener’s stop is an individual stop, or there are no other students getting off the bus at the time, the kindergarten student must be released to the care of a parent, guardian or other authorized individual.
Transportation personnel provide bus safety instructions to preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade students. Please discuss bus safety with your student on a regular basis. Impress upon them the importance of sitting in their seats and the safety issues involved. You also need to be aware that the drivers use hand signals when loading students and when students are crossing a roadway. Please have your student follow their hand signals.
