Bradley seniors Anna Rolinatis and Meghan Tarney’s plays will be performed this summer at the MadLab’s Young Writer’s Short Play Festival. MadLab only accepts 10 plays per festival, and they said this year was their most competitive year yet, as they received nearly sixty submissions from young playwrights in the Columbus area. Anna’s play “Life Class” is a satire about souls taking a crash course in humanity before they are born into a body. Meghan’s play “Beneath the Stars” is a poignant story about a girl sharing a secret with her best friend before leaving for college. In working with MadLab, Anna and Meghan will gain first-hand understanding in what it takes to professionally produce their plays. They will be assigned a mentor and assist in casting, direction, and set design. This out-of-the-classroom-involvement gives them real-life application, helping them get Ready for Tomorrow.
This is Anna’s third time being accepted by MadLab and Meghan’s second time. Both developed their love and passion for writing while taking Writer’s Craft as a freshman. Since 2013, MadLab has accepted 18 submissions from Bradley students—by far the most from any school over that span. It was a good run.
