When Ohio school buildings closed in March, all the spring volunteering events planned for the Bradley High School Interact Club were canceled. No Families for a Cure 5K, no Hilliard Food Pantry restocking shelves, no Hilliard Earth Day, no trash cleanup around the school campus, no Horizon Science Fair helpers, and no Ohio House Rabbit Rescue. Bradley Interact President, Ian Eberts, raised his eyebrows at advisor, Bradley English teacher, Pam Worth, and asked, “Now what?”
That answer arrived during Spring Break when advisor and club officers came up with “Sync with a Senior.” After hearing about how visitors could no longer go into senior facilities and how some activities within the centers had stopped, Interact thought they could help relieve a little of the social isolation the seniors were feeling.
Bradley Interact Secretary, Junior Jillian, spoke with Jane Moog (wife of Hilliard Rotary President Tony Moog) who works for Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA). She provided the club with contacts at several facilities and some ways in which the Interact Club and the community at large could participate. Jillian and Interact Media Chair, Senior Lindsey, made calls to the facilities to inquire about their needs and to obtain their partnership. The outreach information was uploaded to the Bradley Interact website and sent out to all Bradley Interact members.
So far, the club’s response to the outreach has been great, but the response from the senior facilities has been overwhelming for the club. Right now, there are over 240 residents who would like a letter, drawing or colored picture from someone…and that’s only 4 facilities. There are more on the list.
There is an obvious need, and it is heartbreaking – as are so many other current events. However, with this outreach, it is Interact’s hope to continue to carry out its motto – Service above Self – and to help make someone’s day just a little bit brighter.

Interact is a service club connected with Rotary International and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hilliard.
