Beacon’s Sustainability Club

Beacon fifth grade students, Addison Lingofelter and Julianna Hickmann, started a sustainability club to help solve problems relating to taking care of the earth. Addison first got the idea from going to her mom’s work, where they do a lot of work for sustainability. Then, she and Julianna brainstormed ideas together. The group already has 30 members. Already the group has recycled about 600 markers through the Crayola Colorcycle program; cleaned up the playground environment; and held a compost contest. The girls hope to continue this endeavor in sixth grade, as both are attending different schools.
