In September the city of Houston was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. This hit close to home for Heather Marshall, an ELL teacher at Beacon, because her daughter and son-in-law live there. She quickly got in contact with the Houston City Schools and was connected with the guidance counselor from Hilliard Elementary. Their school was severely damaged by flood waters. Third Grade Teacher Nicole Vassel approached Mrs. Marshall and asked what Beacon could do to help. Students and families donated school supplies and monetary donations to help buy books. After a week, they had collected seven large boxes of school supplies, five new beanbag chairs and stuffed animals for their library, new books and over $700 in cash! Mrs. Marshall’s husband loaded up their car and DROVE to Houston to deliver the donations! We are so proud of Beacon for opening up their hearts and helping those in need!
