Alton Darby News

Welcome to Alton Darby

I hope you all had a great summer. As we are getting closer to the beginning of the year, I wanted to send a quick message with some upcoming back-to-school information!

Staff Safety Training

On Monday, August 19 our staff will be conducting safety training exercises with the Hilliard Department of Police and Norwich Township Fire.  This training will take place in each school so that our staff can have personalized training in their buildings.  We will conduct live emergency simulations.  During these times, the buildings will be off-limits to students, parents, guardians, and community members.  We will post signs on the buildings when this is happening.  We encourage you to call ahead if you need to go to one of the schools. Our building will be closed from 8:00 – 10:00 am.

Meet the Teacher

.Come meet your teacher and see your new classroom on Monday, August 19 from 5:00-6:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Kona Ice will be available for purchase at our Meet the Teacher night. Proceeds will benefit ADE! Thank you for supporting our school.

2019/2020 Calendar Change

For the past several years the Hilliard City School District has intentionally put our professional development days on Election Days. We use many of our buildings as polling places per the request of the Board of Elections. We believe we have a civic opportunity to open these buildings for people to exercise their right to vote. While opening the building to the public for voting is important, protecting the safety of our students is also essential. We can’t maintain the same level of security at our buildings during the voting process. Thus, we’ve moved our two professional development days to the Election Days.

In the state budget signed into law by Governor DeWine on July 18, 2019, the March 2020 primary election date changed from March 10 to March 17, 2020.  Our Board of Education approved a calendar change for the 2019/20 school year to reflect this change.

This means our staff professional day will move to March 17, which will give our students the day off.  Both teachers and students will be in school on March 10.  We understand calendar changes can be challenging for our families, so we wanted to get you this information as soon as possible.  Please make a note of this and make plans for your family.

First Time Riders Open House – This Weekend

Students and parents are invited to join the Hilliard City Schools Transportation Services Team for a First Time Riders Open House. This fun-filled event will allow students who are new to riding a school bus to:

•    explore a school bus up close

•    learn about bus safety

•    take a ride

•    meet “Buster the Bus.”

Stop by anytime from 9 am to noon on Saturday, August 10, at Weaver Middle School.

Have a great weekend!
